Claudia Aguilera of Fort Lauderdale on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Claudia Aguilera and have shared our conversation below.

Claudia , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
When I’m painting, I completely lose track of time. It’s like the world fades away and it’s just me, the canvas, and the colors. Hours can go by without me noticing. That’s also where I find myself again, in that flow, in the process of turning emotions and energy into something visual. It’s my way of reconnecting with who I am and what I love most.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Claudia Aguilera, and I’m a portrait painter and muralist, originally from Uruguay and now based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Through my brand, I blend the energy of pop culture with vibrant color palettes and bold geometric shapes to create portraits that feel alive. My work celebrates individuality and emotion — whether it’s on canvas or across an entire wall. I’ve had the honor of being named Best Mural Artist 2025 by Fort Lauderdale Magazine, and I’m currently focused on developing new portrait series and creating murals that reflect the tropical and urban spirit of South Florida.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a quiet dreamer who loved observing people and colors. Before the world told me who I had to be, I was just a girl who found peace in creating ,drawing faces, mixing colors, and expressing emotions I couldn’t put into words. In many ways, that’s still who I am; I’ve just learned to share it with the world through my art.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell her not to worry so much, that everything she dreams of is possible. To trust her instincts, keep painting, and never doubt that her passion will one day become her purpose.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The cultural value I protect at all costs is authenticity. Growing up in Uruguay taught me the importance of staying humble, genuine, and connected to my roots. No matter how far I go or how much my art evolves, I always try to keep that sense of sincerity in the way I create, connect, and represent where I come from.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m painting, when it’s just me, the colors, and music in the background. It’s a space where time disappears and everything makes sense. Creating allows me to express emotions I can’t always put into words, and that brings me a deep sense of calm and gratitude.
