We’re looking forward to introducing you to Efda Dejoie. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Efda , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are dedicated to nurturing both my son and myself. Upon waking, I take a moment to express gratitude, whispering a heartfelt “Thank you, Yhwh, for waking us up.” This sets a positive tone for the day.
As I attend to my son’s needs, he often becomes a bit fussy for his morning bottle. If I haven’t prepped one, I quickly make it, ensuring he’s comfortable and happy. Once he’s settled in his playmat, I take some time for myself in the bathroom to get ready. This routine not only allows me to tend to my son’s needs but also helps me prepare mentally and physically for the day ahead. It’s a beautiful reminder that my day truly begins with our shared moments together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, readers! I’m a dedicated mom who recently embraced the joys and challenges of motherhood. After taking a break to focus on my family, I continued my education both online and in person, prioritizing my personal growth and healing. I’m back at the gym, which has been vital for my well-being.
I’m excited to share that I’m venturing into the tech world with my new app, LITCITY, tailored for locals and tourists in Miami. Currently in the Apple TestFlight phase, we’re preparing for distribution on both the Apple and Google Play stores. This project is particularly special to me as it aims to enhance the Miami experience for visitors and residents alike.
In addition to LITCITY, I have other ventures, such as BulletBarbies and DejoieTalents, which are currently on pause as I focus on this new direction. I’m also a content creator and work with select brands that align with my values while also trying to continue contributing to my community. My journey is all about growth, connection, and finding innovative ways to support others, and I’m excited about what’s ahead!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Throughout my childhood, many people, friends, family, and mentors saw potential in me before I could recognize it in myself. I often heard that I was destined to be a star, but I struggled with this notion. The negativity and hate I faced from classmates made me hesitant to embrace my talents and aspirations.
While I was actively involved in pageants, varsity sports, and cheerleading, I tried to hide my ambitions, feeling overwhelmed by the judgment of others. It wasn’t until later that I began to appreciate the encouragement I received and understand the importance of believing in myself. Those early experiences shaped my resilience and ultimately led me to pursue my passions with confidence.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, there have been many moments when I felt like giving up. Life has its challenges, and I often faced times when the journey felt overwhelming. However, my experience as a mother taught me an invaluable lesson about perseverance.
Being a mom is a role I can’t clock out of, and it has shown me what true consistency looks like. No matter how tired, sick, or in pain I feel, my responsibilities as a parent push me to keep going. This unwavering dedication has inspired me to apply that same level of commitment to everything I do, reminding me that resilience is key, even in the toughest times.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is a blend of my true self, but it’s not the whole picture. On one hand, I’m very talkative, an oversharer, and I have a quirky sense of humor that often comes out in private moments. However, what I present publicly tends to highlight my ambitious and serious side.
I believe that two things can coexist: the driven persona that others see and the more playful, authentic me. I’m selective about what I share, choosing to balance my personal and professional lives while still staying true to who I am.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was so loved and that I loved people back.
