We recently had the chance to connect with Jovanny Membreno and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Jovanny, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently, I have been receiving so much love on my Instagram for my work as a makeup artist and how cool my personal aesthetic is. It makes me feel so proud that I can be 100% myself and people love and receive it so well.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jovanny and I live in Miami Beach Florida. I’m a “style architect”, which means all these beauty I curate. My brand is all about integrity and enhancing the way women view themselves. My fashion background has helped trend forecast to where I’m usually ahead of style trends before they hit the mainstream(media).
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was definitely very meek and mild. I was always worried about being “in the way” or “upsetting people”. I felt I needed to please everyone. As, I got older my boundaries got stronger. That’s what is helping my business, brand, and life flourish. By upholding my boundaries the right people come in and the wrong people stay out.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that it’s okay to follow your heart. I would say that people are mean, but for every mean person there’s 3 more people that will love you for being you.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to think that everyone had good intentions. However, I think I was extremely naive, to believe if I’m nice everyone will be nice back. I still believe that but from negative experiences I learned to hold my boundaries strong.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
I would most regret not taking chances, not being silly, not being myself. I like to say that my talent gets me through the door but what puts me center stage is my audacity and nerve.
