We recently had the chance to connect with Neidly Bonny Owner of Glorified looks and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Neidly, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
From the last time we spoke, I’ve become a mom, and it’s been the most fulfilling journey of my life. My business, Glorified Looks, is my baby, but the journey of birthing a human has brought me an indescribable joy that replenishes my cup of love daily.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a professional makeup artist, and my business (Glorified looks) mission statement is to demonstrate to everyone who sits in my chair that they are fearfully and wonderfully made through Christ. Just as Christ sees them as precious jewels, I want to always provide them with a luxurious service to uplift them in any way I can during the hour we spend together on a glam session and leave a lasting impression for my clients to illuminate every room they step in with their beautiful glam afterwards.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
People often described me as a shy child because my mother kept me close at all times. However, I now believe that I wasn’t meant to be shy at all. I’ve always made bold decisions when it comes to what I desire. I’ve realized that this career choice requires me not to be afraid to make an impact in the beauty industry with my talent and voice, so that I can reach as many people as possible.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The daily fear that haunts me is anxiety. I’m incredibly proud of how my work has helped me overcome this by fostering connections and genuinely letting go of my constant need for perfection or love. It’s been incredibly rewarding to witness the tangible fruits of my efforts when I conduct these interviews and allow my work to shine through.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest misconception is that we shouldn’t charge a premium for the exceptional service we provide. While working a 9 to 5 job and owning a business may differ in many aspects, they both demand a strong work ethic, dedication, and expertise. I often hear about the minimum wage, but when you consider the actual work involved, it’s evident that we often put in more effort. For instance, you can choose to do nothing at work and still receive compensation, as the company bears the loss. However, what happens when you are the employee and the company? It’s double the loss lol
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I wholeheartedly believe that I was meant to be a makeup artist and entrepreneur. It simply fits me perfectly. I’ve always been drawn to beauty, and although I had to be told to pursue it professionally, once I stepped into the industry, it felt incredibly natural and right.
