Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Tusi Brewer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my yoga journey in 2015, taking a few classes at my local gym. I soon feel in love with the way it made me feel and how it transformed my body and mind. I wanted to complete my teacher training program but the timing never felt right. After moving to Miami and quitting a terrible job I finally did my teacher training. Completing the process was full of learning and emotional growth. While I wanted to teach immediately after completing the program, it took almost a year to find a studio to teach consistently. I kept looking and tried not to get discouraged. Finally, I found a home at Brickell yoga and have been happy there ever since!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many obstacles in journey both as a yoga teacher and in different professional areas of life. Living in a country away from my family, dealing with job loss and feeling unsure about what my next move should be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work both as a yoga teacher and in sustainability! Having just completed my master’s degree I am interest in how companies, governments and other organizations can operate with less impact on the environment. The connection between sustainability and human rights is also extremely important, as we can see it’s effects on migration, health and inequality.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Life is always full of unpredicted turns and ups and downs. I would encourage anyone to find a practice that allows them to ground, process emotion, and develop their spirituality. Remaining curious and engaged in community is also key for happiness!
