Today we’d like to introduce you to Romina Bryce.
Hi Romina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started working at Baby Stars as a sophomore in college. This was supposed to be my summer job, and it became my life story. As a psychology student, I knew I wanted to work with people, especially children. I met Edith Peisach, the founder of Baby Stars, and she offered a part-time job at her center to help in the afternoons during some extracurricular activities she had at Baby Stars, a center whose primary business was Mommy and Me classes. When I started working, I saw the potential Baby Stars had to be more, so I decided not to quit my summer job and stay on to help this wonderful center grow. I helped Edith expand her Mommy and Me class schedule to accommodate working mothers. We then added a drop-off program for kids to stay with us a couple of hours per day and helped establish our Preschool Program in 2005. Since then, we have expanded our school 3 times. We have become a pillar in the community. I know former students are coming back to us with their own babies. My wonderful staff has been with me through ups and downs. Our most significant change came last year when Edith sold the school to Cadence Education, so we are now part of a bigger company, but we remain the little gem we have always been! By joining a larger company, I hope to help promote and expand the Baby Stars teaching methodology nationwide. Our unique rotating and bilingual programs provide children with the academic, emotional, and motor skills necessary to succeed in all their future endeavors. I still have a long way to go, but I wish to continue with Edith’s legacy and mark my own in the process.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a lot of ups and downs. The preschool scene has changed because our community has changed. Covid was a great challenge, and I am extremely proud of how we were able to push through it. Parents now how many options for preschool and we have had to found ways to supplement our business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Preschool Director. I am most proud of the team of teachers I have recruited, the work environment we have, and the trust we instill in the families we serve. Overall, the respect and love we have for our students drive us, and that really makes a difference. Parents feel the love we have towards their kids. Families that choose our school basically become part of our family. It is incredibly gratifying to have families come back just to say hello, to tell us about their kids’ achievements. My own children find it incredible that when we are at a store, restaurant, or park in our community, people come to say hello to me, reminisce about their time at Baby Stars. This gives me incredible pride: after many years, families still remember us and always have something sweet to say about their time with us.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love to read. I escape into historical fiction novels that teach me about the world while also having a fun or romantic spin. I recently discovered audiobooks, and I look forward to being stuck in traffic so I can listen to them. Books help me value my everyday struggles, help me be more open-minded, and even inspire me to one day write a book of my own. I have heard and seen so many things working with all the families that I have a great database foundation for a book.
