Today we’d like to introduce you to Janie Reisler.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am born and raised in Montreal, Quebec and moved to South Florida in 2021. I have several university degrees in the Visual Arts from Canada. I chose to pursue a new career challenge in Art Education once I was settled in my new life. I began teaching at many institutions from Miami to West Palm Beach in the hopes of finding a demographic that suited my skill set. Currently I am teaching at the Boca Museum of Art School as well as conducting workshops in Delray at the Arts Warehouse. I sit on the board of the Museum’s Art school as a faculty advisor in their education le department. I accompany my students monthly on art tours of museums, galleries and exciting art fairs throughout South Florida.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No it was not a smooth road, but a very exciting and challenging one. I had to figure out where I fit in! There are so many art communities in South Florida and by teaching in many, I was able to study the student population. By working in each one of my choice, I analyzed the group and their needs, then I focussed in on building suitable programs for them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I special in Mixed Media as an art form. I prefer working with many mediums and not just one.To date I have taught watercolor, acrylic painting, collage, photo transfers, 3D art, metal sculpture and printing.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love best about South Florida is the mix of cultures. It’s such a vibrant art scene, especially with all the Art Fairs that come to our state. Art Basel is amazing. It’s the best of the best!
