Community Highlights: Meet Ileana Fay of Florida Palm Construction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ileana Fay.

Hi Ileana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Mostly out of necessity and happenstance; I lost my job in 2015 and had a daughter already and was pregnant with our second child and my husband had just quit his job two weeks prior to go full time on his own. So we decided to try to venture into this business together. We grew the business from doing mostly residential work to adding the government sector, to now mostly doing commercial and facility project management. What started out as a way to help my husband with his business has grown into a thriving company; one that he is no longer a part of in the day to day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been anything but smooth; entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. Among some of the struggles were hiring and keeping staff, starting a second business too soon (and having to close it quickly), scaling too quickly without the capital. But all of these issues have molded me into a better leader and business woman, so now I can make better decisions as we move into our next chapters.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We focus on redevelopment of existing spaces; we get to revive spaces for public use such as the Hallandale Public Library, FAU Career Center or Monkees Boutique. We are currently renovating a 100 year old church, the first church in the City of Fort Lauderdale. It is a beautiful building, but since it is old it requires a lot of special detail and considerations.
We specialize in facility maintenance, renovations, and commercial interiors.

We also focus on projects that require precision, communication, and adaptability.

In order to ensure quality and client satisfaction throughout its construction projects, we make sure to:
– maintain our bi-weekly milestone meetings keep clients consistently informed;
– maintain clean financials and transparent reporting.
– provide direction within 24 hours of client requests.
– focus on visibility, accountability, and proactive updates at all times.

All of these pieces help us reach and maintain our cornerstone of being “excellent in project management”.

What matters most to you?
Trying to achieve excellence in what we do. I want us to be known for how well we can complete a project, and the experience the client has while we do it. We focus on our culture and our people in order to try to achieve this as much as possible. Sometimes we fall short, but we own up to it and move on to do better. At Florida Palm Construction, our goal is simple: to build with integrity, deliver with excellence, and create an experience our clients remember.
