Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Henry.
Hi Anna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I as parent of 4 suffered some hardships when I was raising my children. Whereas over time I began to notice some behaviors that was troubling 2 of my sons who was diagnosed with ADHD. Therefore I was driven to research what it was that had my boys in a disarray. Due to this I began my love for advocacy in Mental Health and I am broadening my scope to youth and family support services for those who are incarcerated. Fireflies 4 Families a foot to ground outreach organization is setting the tone to engage and inform families about better ways to support and foster a stronger strategy to prevent recurring violence, trauma and or reincarceration.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This hasn’t been a easy battle were in Florida there seems to be a historic hierarchy being used as a staple such as Maslow’s Hierarchy. Where with this there is a lot of red and yellow tape that has created a lot of preventative precautions when trying to promote progress in certain communities. Therefore as a resident in Broward County the mental health realm is highly discussed throughout th whole state however in Broward the need for greed out weighs the importance of services. Where in the past 6 months I have heard that there are really no services that can truly meet the quality or quantity of those who suffer under the barrier of mental poverty. Wherefore I have studied Maslow’s Hierarchy in various trainings that has drawn me to believe that the State is driving us crazy while we are fighting to stay sane.

Fireflies 4 Families steamed from seeking help from the very City,County and State I support and stand with even when they don’t stand with me.Where as a mother who struggled with 2 children who battled with their mental health and 2 children who endured their siblings mental health was not aware that there was no help in our community. I felt I needed to reach out by going behind the scenes to work for the services that I needed for my family.Where after great research I then knew I was up for a fight. I being an advocate since 2016 watched one of my sons fall through the cracks and sentenced to a 40yr prison term. Though my heart aches every day it’s my Hope for Henry that gives my heart the strength I need to keep fighting everyday.
