Inspiring Conversations with Vicky Alianelli of Vicky Alianelli New York Art

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicky Alianelli.

Hi Vicky, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but I spent my childhood moving around different cities in Patagonia until I was twelve and my family and I moved to Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires has always been my favorite city in the world — full of energy, culture, and beauty. Still, life (and love!) took me on a different path: I left my career in actuarial science and moved to New York, then to Paris, and eventually back to New York after the pandemic.
Over the years, I’ve been lucky to live surrounded by museums, artists, biennials, and the rich architecture and culture of these incredible cities. In 2021, when I returned to New York and began decorating my new apartment, I met an extraordinary woman, Angels Grau, whose passion and vision inspired me to start a project of my own in the art world. Around the same time, my friend Valentina Ferrer encouraged me to take that leap — her enthusiasm and support gave me the confidence to bring my ideas to life.
Little by little, I began shaping my gallery concept — one that’s not only about the commercial side of art, but also about building real, personal connections.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the art world, there are many different “worlds” within it — museums, galleries, fairs — each with its own rhythm, language, and community. Finding the space that truly fit what I could offer, and where I felt comfortable and authentic, was probably my biggest challenge.
Another major challenge has been building a clientele. For those of us who work with art that’s more accessible in terms of price, it takes time and dedication to find and connect with collectors, since the larger galleries already have their established networks.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vicky Alianelli New York Art is a young, New York–based virtual gallery representing primarily international artists who live and work in the city. I focus on emerging talents whose works are still at accessible prices — artists with fresh voices, distinct aesthetics, and powerful perspectives.
Although the gallery is just a year and a half old, it has already participated in major art fairs such as Clio Art Fair New York, Art Expo New York, Aqua Art Miami, and the Affordable Art Fair in Boston, as well as a pop-up exhibition in Madrid. The gallery is also present on Artsy.
One of my favorite projects so far was curating a pop-up show in Tribeca, New York, in support of Glasswing.org, a remarkable organization dedicated to advancing education, mental health, and community development programs throughout Latin America.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
For me, my greatest mentors have been the artists I work with. They were the first to trust me and believe in this project, and together we’ve built everything through collaboration and a shared vision. I also work closely with Mali Parkerson, who has been an extraordinary advisor and coach — always offering guidance on curatorial direction and new initiatives.
I truly believe that surrounding yourself with people who share your values and genuinely support one another is essential when starting something new. Building a community based on both personal and creative connection makes the entire process not only more meaningful, but also more sustainable.
