Hi Enrique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu back in Ecuador when i was 15 because my dad forced me to, it was very hard at first because I was the youngest, smallest and weakest person doing the adult classes, and back then the training culture was that only the tough survive; i guess i was tough enough haha
At 20 years old i moved to NJ where i started training at Silver Fox BJJ and noticed a shift in the culture that Brazilian Jiu-jitsu it’s not only for the tough ones, that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone
After 9 years in NJ training and teaching decided to move down to West Palm Beach and open my own Brazilian Jiu-jitsu School – Silver Fox BJJ 561
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
it hasn’t been smooth but it has definitively been rewarding.
opening a new business in a new city and missing friends and family made it very challenging. Thankfully had my fiance and dogs with me
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
It’s a martial arts school, more specifically Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
It’s a grappling based martial arts focused on Self defense that has become somewhat mainstream with the growth of Mixed Martial Arts and the UFC
The readers that are familiar with the UFC, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is what happens when the fight goes to the grown, that’s what we specialized in.
I am a Second Degree Black Belt under Karel “Silver Fox” Pravec who got his Black belt from Renzo Gracie. I have won two amateur MMA fights but my real passion is grappling so i dedicate most of my training time to it.
what sets me apart from other is my experience in the martial arts, having trained with some of the best UFC fighters and Grapplers in the world i can give real insight as to what techniques work at the highest level of competition while at the same time being able to teach the self defense fundamentals that will work for the hobbyist practitioner that just wants to learn how to defend themselves and their families if they need to.
It’s hard to feel too proud because in my head I feel like I can always do better. More than the many gold medals and belts I’ve won in competition what brings me joy is hearing students say that they are happy to train at the school and that Brazilian Jiu-jitsu has impacted their lives for the better – Seeing kids gain confidence, grown-ups fall in love with a new hobby and achieving new goals.
We are a school for everyone, whether you want to be a competitor or hobbyist, you can come train with us. we offer kids and adult classes.
