Today we’d like to introduce you to Nubia Rose.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My stage name is Nubia Rose, born Nubia Silva Dos Reis, and my married name is Nubia Dos Reis Cohen. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and moved to the United States in 1988 after marrying an American businessman who had been living in Brazil for over 10 years.
In Brazil, as a teenager, I worked as a model on a popular TV show called Os Trapalhões, broadcast by Globo TV. I also held jobs as a receptionist at Caderneta de Poupança Delfin Savings Bank in Humaitá, Rio de Janeiro, and at DER, a government office.
Since childhood, I’ve always dreamed of becoming an actress—it was my greatest aspiration. As a little girl, I often spent weekends at my grandparents’ house, where my grandfather played the guitar. I would join him by singing, dancing, and creating lyrics spontaneously. At the time, I didn’t realize how much I loved music and performing.
After marrying my second husband, Dr. Jeffrey Cohen, in 2000, we decided I would become a stay-at-home mom. We planned to start a family right away, so I left my job at Bank of America and began studying real estate. When my son was born, it was a life-changing moment—the best gift from God! I started singing lullabies to him, including classics like The Itsy Bitsy Spider and Old MacDonald Had a Farm. This reignited my passion for music.
In 2014, during a soccer tournament trip to Disney with my son Brandon (who played club soccer), I wrote my first song, Funtastic Love, a love ballad. I loved the experience so much that I decided to produce and release it independently. That moment marked the beginning of my journey as a songwriter and artist.
With God’s guidance, I’ve been able to produce and release all my songs, despite the challenges independent artists face in the music industry. My work rivals that of professional stars, and I truly believe divine help has played a part in my success.
Every October, I feel inspired to write Christmas songs. My first, I Want Nothing for Christmas, was released in 2018. In 2022, I published a book featuring the song’s lyrics, available on Amazon. A second book, published by Fulton Books, is on its way. In 2023, I released Papai Noel and other Christmas albums, including I Love Christmas.
During the pandemic, I wrote In This Together (2020) and other songs like I Love U Mon Amour, Parabéns da Nubia Rose, Te Amo (in both Portuguese and Spanish). For the 2024 holiday season, I released two singles: Nada Para O Natal (the Portuguese version of I Want Nothing for Christmas) and a cover of the classic Santa Baby.
In addition to music, I publish a Brazilian lifestyle magazine, work as an Amazon Influencer, and am a licensed real estate professional.
My current goal is to sign with a record label, and I’m optimistic about what lies ahead. I’m incredibly excited for 2025, and I believe it will be a fantastic year!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and there have been quite a few challenges along the way. Financially, producing all my music was a significant hurdle. Between the costs of recording studios—which can be incredibly expensive—and finding the right distribution companies, the financial strain was often overwhelming. On top of that, the time investment required was enormous. Balancing music production with other responsibilities was a constant challenge.
Marketing the songs was another uphill battle. Promoting music effectively can be prohibitively expensive, and when marketing doesn’t happen, it’s almost impossible for anyone to discover your songs. It’s a harsh reality that no matter how much passion and effort you put into creating music, it can go unnoticed without the resources to promote it properly. These struggles have tested my resilience but also fueled my determination to keep pushing forward.

I am a multifaceted professional—businesswoman, singer-songwriter, influencer, self-published magazine creator, and real estate professional. As an independent artist, I write, sing, and perform my own songs, pouring my heart and soul into every note. Each project I undertake reflects my passion, love, and unwavering dedication to creativity. Among all my endeavors, my music holds a particularly special place in my heart, as it allows me to express myself in the most profound way.
What truly sets me apart is my ability to create in three languages—English, Portuguese, and Spanish—enabling me to connect with diverse audiences on a deeper level. Additionally, my experience and age lend me a unique perspective, shaping my craft and enhancing my ability to resonate with people from all walks of life.
