Today we’d like to introduce you to Saroyah Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From a young age, I was captivated by the art of fashion, watching my grandmother transform garments in her own alteration shop. Growing up with limited resources, thrifting wasn’t my favorite hobby but I learned to love it. I learned how to restyle outdated pieces into trendy outfits. This passion for fashion ignited a desire to empower others, leading me to create tutorial videos that share sewing techniques and thrifting tips. As my community grew, I felt proud to inspire others to express their creativity and embrace resourcefulness, turning sewing into a powerful means of connection, self-sufficiency and a way to release unwanted tension.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had many roadblocks during my journey of learning how to sew and creating my business. There were times when I didn’t make a profit from my investments or didn’t know what my next step should be however, I never give up on my dreams.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I graduated from Alabama State University with a Bachelor of Social Work aspiring to be a community leader because I’ve always seen a bigger purpose for helping others. My daily occupation involves counseling and educating Youth on how to communicate their emotions, talk about their personal developments and learn how to become healthy individuals in relationships. In my personal time, I enjoy making clothes, encouraging others to be creative and make revenue from their life skills. I’m most proud of being unapologetically me. I don’t always carry the same confidence but I’m grateful for all the opportunities God provides. My personality is beautiful, big and bright so it’s hard not to see the individuality in me.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
My support system is everything to me and I highly recommend finding people who want to see you win in every aspect. Treat others how you want to be treated because you never know what others are going through. Don’t chase your dreams, make it a reality ❤️
