Community Highlights: Meet Lorena Corzo of CōrPERIO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Corzo.

Hi Lorena , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, in a family of medical professionals, which allowed me to develop a deep connection to the healthcare field from an early age. During my last year of high school, I discovered my passion for dentistry — a field that combined my interest in science, art, and helping others.

I earned my dental degree from the Central University of Venezuela and spent two years practicing in both public and private settings. However, as the political and security situation in my home country began to deteriorate, I made the difficult decision to seek new opportunities abroad. In 2011, I moved to Florida with the determination to rebuild my professional career in the United States.

After completing a two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at the University of Florida, I became a licensed dentist in 2015. Still driven by my goal to specialize, I was accepted into the prestigious Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine at Boston University. My time in Massachusetts broadened my perspective and deepened my expertise in periodontics.

Following graduation, my family and I returned to Florida, where I have been practicing in the private sector and serving as an Adjunct Faculty member at Nova Southeastern University’s predoctoral program. Most recently, I fulfilled a lifelong goal by acquiring my own periodontal practice, where I have been proudly serving patients for nearly two years.

My journey has been defined by resilience, dedication, and a continuous pursuit of excellence in patient care and education

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has certainly not been a smooth one, but I have been fortunate to have incredible support from people who, directly and indirectly, have helped me reach where I am today. The first few years away from my family and the familiar environment I grew up in were especially challenging. Adjusting to a new country, language, and culture while rebuilding my professional path required resilience and adaptability.

Being a foreign-trained dentist also came with its own set of obstacles. The process of revalidating my education and proving my qualifications in a new system was demanding, and at times, discouraging. However, I’ve learned that determination, perseverance, and keeping my goals firmly in sight were the keys to overcoming those barriers. Each challenge strengthened my commitment to my profession and to the values that first inspired me to pursue dentistry.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our practice is a specialized periodontal office dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum and bone conditions that affect oral health and overall well-being. We provide a full range of periodontal and surgical services, including treatment of periodontal disease, bone and gingival grafting, extractions, laser therapy, and full-arch reconstructions.

What truly sets us apart is our personalized and compassionate approach to care. Every treatment plan is customized to meet the individual needs of our patients; we take the time to listen, educate, and collaborate with them to achieve optimal results. We also work closely with a network of highly qualified dental professionals to ensure a seamless and comprehensive experience.

As a multicultural practice, we take pride in creating a welcoming environment where patients from all backgrounds feel understood and cared for. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to help our patients restore and maintain their oral health while giving them the confidence to smile again.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust and long-term relationships we have built with our patients and colleagues. Our focus on excellence, integrity, and genuine care is at the heart of everything we do, and it’s what defines our practice.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe the dental and periodontal fields are experiencing a significant shift in how patients approach their oral health. Today’s patients are more informed, engaged, and proactive in seeking care. They value understanding their treatment options and are increasingly looking for holistic and minimally invasive approaches that align with their overall well-being.

As professionals, this means we must stay continually informed and adaptable — keeping up with emerging research, new materials, and advanced techniques. Technology will continue to play a major role in this evolution. Digital imaging, 3D printing, guided surgery, and AI-assisted diagnostics are transforming not only how we diagnose but also how we plan and deliver treatment.

Over the next decade, I see our industry becoming more patient-centered, technologically integrated, and prevention-focused — with a strong emphasis on personalized, conservative, and wellness-oriented care.
