Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Quirk.
Hi Erin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m originally from a small coastal town in southern Maine, but I always had this pull toward something bigger. So, at 17, I packed up and moved to New York City — a move that completely shaped who I am today.
My plan at the time was to go to school to become a dentist (believe it or not!), but life had other plans. I took a part-time retail job to help pay the bills, and that’s where everything clicked. I discovered my passion for people — connecting with them, understanding what excites them, and creating experiences that make them feel inspired. That one “temporary” job turned into a 20-year career in retail leadership.
Over the years, I’ve worked across all kinds of retail, intentionally exploring different environments to grow, learn, and challenge myself. Each step along the way deepened my love for leading teams and crafting meaningful in-store experiences. Eventually, I found my perfect fit in interiors — a space where design, creativity, and connection meet.
For the past two years, I’ve been with Blu Dot, and I can honestly say I’m obsessed with the brand — its design philosophy, its people, and the values that drive everything we do. It feels amazing to be part of a company that truly aligns with my own principles of authenticity, innovation, and joy in the work.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road — but honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way! Working in retail comes with its fair share of challenges. Balancing the demands of a fast-paced environment with a personal life can be tricky, and managing a wide range of personalities — from team members to clients — has pushed me to grow in ways I never expected.
Each new role also meant diving into different industries, learning their unique rhythms, and continuously expanding my skill set as a leader. There were moments that tested my patience, resilience, and adaptability — but those experiences are exactly what shaped me into the leader I am today.
Looking back, I’m grateful for every one of those challenges. They taught me empathy, flexibility, and confidence. Without them, I know I wouldn’t be the same person — or the same leader — that I am now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my work, I focus on operational excellence and people leadership — building strong, engaged teams and creating environments where both the business and the individuals within it can thrive. I’m passionate about developing talent, mentoring future leaders, and finding ways to make operations run seamlessly so that the customer experience truly shines.
What I’m most proud of is the fearlessness I’ve built over time. I’ve never let myself be boxed in by what I didn’t know — instead, I’ve leaned into learning, stretching beyond my comfort zone, and saying “yes” to challenges that helped me grow. That mindset has been key to my success and my longevity in retail leadership.
What really sets me apart is how hands-on I am as a leader. I believe in learning the business from the inside out — understanding not just what my team does, but how they do it. I’m right there alongside them, rolling up my sleeves when needed, because I think the best leaders are the ones who lead with their teams, not just from above them. That approach builds trust, respect, and ultimately, stronger performance all around.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve been really fortunate to have incredible people in my corner throughout my career. I’ve had two mentors who have been with me since I was 18 — and to this day, they continue to guide and challenge me in all the best ways. They’ve seen me through different stages of my career, offered perspective when I needed it most, and reminded me to keep pushing forward even when things felt uncertain.
Beyond that, I’ve built some of my closest friendships through retail — people who just get it. They’ve been my sounding board for everything from work challenges to creative brainstorming, and their support has meant the world. And of course, my family has always been my foundation — they’ve celebrated every win and listened patiently when I’ve needed to talk through a tough day.
Each of these people has played such an important role in my personal and professional growth. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without their encouragement, honesty, and belief in me.
