Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeresh Altork.
Hi Zeresh, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Zeresh Altork, M.Ed., CD, CCE, CLC. I am a mother of 2, and I am certified as a doula, hypno-doula, breastfeeding counselor, childbirth educator, and hypnosis for birth educator, waterbirth community educator.
I have been a doula and childbirth educator since 2008 and have supported hundreds of couples on their journey to parenthood. I also have a Master’s degree in Counseling and over 20 years of counseling and education experience, which gives me a unique and valuable set of skills that I am able to draw from.
Having grown up in Spain, I am fluent in Spanish. This has provided me the opportunity to be the coordinator and interpreter for the world-renowned midwife, author, and Waterbirth International founder Barbara Harper’s Waterbirth and gentle birth workshops in Spain. I also had the honor to intereped a two day conference for Michele Odent.
From my first personal birth experience in 2008, and from speaking with other women and men I realized how little parents know about the choices and rights that we have surrounding birth, and how beautiful birth really can be. As a result trust in the birth process has been lost and in a lot of cases fear has taken its place. From that my passion was born and I decided to become a doula and childbirth educator; so I could educate, comfort, serve, and help mothers and fathers empower themselves on their journey to childbirth and parenthood.
Birth is one of the most life altering experiences a woman can have, as well as for the baby and father, that is why it is so important to have the right information and be surrounded by the right people. People that respect what you want and care for you in a loving and supportive way.
My goal is to serve parents in the process of creating the birth they envision, by sharing what I know as a mother, doula and childbirth educator, and by being a warm, loving and supportive presence.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Trusting myself to let go of a full time job and deciding to go into business for myself was the biggest challenge. As someone that is driven by passion and service, the marketing and businesses aspect of the job has been a struggle. As well as not living with a steady monthly paycheck.
As you know, we’re big fans of A Loving Birth. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My passion is to help couples empower themselves and welcome their babies surrounded by peace and love. I help them achieve this through hypnosis based complete childbirth education classes, which have been shaped by the incredible mentors and experiences I’ve had filling me with a lot of knowledge and tools. I think a key is that I don’t see my job as empowering anyone but rather support other in empowering themselves.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
That my knowledge and desire to serve is driven by my passion.
