Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Lassalle.
Hi Steven, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started with curiosity and passion long before I ever called it a career. I was born in Brooklyn, NYC, and I remember taking the train into the city at an early age. Each stop had its own energy and style getting to Manhattan meant passing through different boroughs, where every train ride felt like a fashion experience. Seeing all those cultures come together opened my eyes to how powerful your style can be.
Growing up in the 80s and 90s was one of the best times of my life. Music videos were everything back then. I would sit for hours watching MTV, soaking in the styles of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Boy George, Elton John, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Run D.M.C. Just to name a few. They were all so bold, expressive, and fearless with their looks. That era taught me that fashion isn’t just about trends; it’s about attitude, creativity, and owning who you are.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what made me who I am today. When you’re coming up in fashion, nothing is handed to you. There were times I worked nonstop, sometimes without pay, just to prove myself and build relationships. I have had moments where I questioned if I was on the right path, especially when things got tough financially or creatively.
Being from Brooklyn, I learned early on how to hustle and keep going no matter what. Every setback from jobs falling through to long nights prepping for shoots taught me something new about discipline and patience. Looking back, those challenges shaped my vision, my work ethic, and the way I lead today. It’s never been easy, but it’s always been worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Creative Director and Fashion Stylist, and what I love most about my work is bringing stories to life through style, vision, and culture. Every project is different there’s no formula or template. Whether it’s a red carpet moment, a campaign, or a music video, I focus on creating visuals that truly connect with people and reflect the talent or brand behind them.
For me, fashion isn’t just about clothes it’s about emotion, storytelling, and transformation. When I dress an artist, I want them to feel powerful, like they’re stepping into their superhero moment. Style has that kind of magic it changes how people see you, and how you see yourself.
I’ve been fortunate to work with brands like Zara, H&M, British Airways, Netflix, and DreamWorks, styling everyone from celebrities to global campaigns. What I’m most proud of is that I built this career from the ground up no shortcuts, just passion, long nights, and a lot of faith.
After years of learning the rhythm of industry, I have truly discovered who I am as a creative. Now, I use that experience to inspire and guide others, helping them find their voice through style and storytelling.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something most people don’t know about me is that I’m a dad of 4 beautiful souls. Being a father has taught me so much about patience, balance, and perspective, qualities that have helped me in both life and my career. My kids also keep me young and connected to what’s next; they are always introducing me to new trends, styles, and ideas. It’s like I get a daily update on what’s happening in the world through their eyes and I love that.
I also wrote a book called Beyond the Wardrobe: How to Become a Successful Fashion Stylist now on amazon. It’s my way of giving back and helping the next generation of stylists understand that this career is more than just what’s hanging on the rack. It’s about mindset, discipline, and building yourself into a brand. The book shares years of my experience, the highs, the lessons, and everything in between, so others can learn how to turn their passion into a business and create their own success story.
