Today we’d like to introduce you to Penny Fraser.
Hi Penny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Penny Fraser, an award-winning portrait photographer, artist, attorney, and empowerment coach based in South Florida. My work centers on helping women rediscover confidence, purpose, and legacy through art, photography, and storytelling.
I create bespoke portrait experiences and fine art commissions for people of all ages who want to celebrate who they are at every stage of life. I specialize in creating powerful branding and portrait experiences that help professionals and business owners elevate their image and connect authentically. Each session, whether personal branding, boudoir, maternity, family, or fine art, is tailored to reflect the client’s individuality. My goal is to create an experience that feels empowering and deeply personal, helping people see themselves in a new light that feels authentic and powerful.
My signature project, the 40 Over 40 Bombshell Series, has become a passion project and community movement. Designed for women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond, it offers a guided portrait experience, creative consultation, and an opportunity to share their story. The series culminates in a gallery exhibition and a printed magazine supported by the Broward County Cultural Division (2023 – 2025), non-profit partners Fort Lauderdale Woman’s Club, ArtServe, and Gilda’s Club of South Florida, and many community sponsors. Participants often describe it as life-changing, a celebration of their resilience, growth, and radiance.
In addition to portraiture, I explore storytelling through mixed media and digital art. My Sirens of the Sea collection combines painting, photography, and augmented reality to create interactive pieces inspired by feminine mythology and transformation. My Bloom Series merges portraiture with layers of paint to represent women blooming into their fullest expression. These collections have been exhibited throughout South Florida, including at ArtServe, Plunge Beach Resort, and Spectrum Miami during Art Basel.
Beyond my artistic work, I also coach individuals seeking confidence and clarity as they move into new life chapters. My coaching blends mindset work and creativity to help people reconnect with their purpose and voice.
What brings me the most pride isn’t the titles or exhibitions, it’s seeing the transformation in someone’s eyes when they realize how powerful and beautiful they truly are. Every part of my work is built around that moment of rediscovery.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The path has not been easy. Balancing a successful legal career while building a creative business in my 40s required faith, persistence, and constant reinvention. There were moments of uncertainty and hard work, but every challenge became part of my transformation.
It was during this time that I rediscovered myself as an artist and learned that growth often comes from stepping into the unknown. That personal transformation after 40 became the foundation for everything I do today. It shaped not only my photography and art but also the way I guide others through change and self-discovery.
Now in my 50s, I continue to grow in my creative work as a photographer, artist, and empowerment coach. I started the 40 Over 40 Bombshell Series in my 50s, and it has become the cornerstone of my business and the heart of my mission. The project celebrates women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond through portraiture, storytelling, and community connection.
Each woman’s journey reminds me why I do this work. What began as a personal exploration of confidence and identity has grown into a movement of empowerment. Through art, photography, and coaching, I help women break through fear, rediscover purpose, and embrace their beauty, strength, and potential at every age.
My background in law gives me a deep understanding of advocacy and the importance of truly listening to people’s stories. That insight now lives within my creative work, where I advocate for authenticity, confidence, and self-expression through imagery. Art has become my voice for empowerment. Photography allows me to translate emotion into light, to reveal the beauty, strength, and truth that already exist within each person I photograph.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets me apart is the combination of my professional background, artistic vision, and the way I make every client feel seen and celebrated. My years as an attorney strengthened my sense of discipline, advocacy, and understanding of people, qualities that now elevate my artistry and the experience I create for others. I bring that same level of care and precision into my work as a photographer, artist, and creative coach, blending it with a refined eye for beauty, emotion, and storytelling.
The 40 Over 40 Bombshell Series, embodies this philosophy. It is a portrait experience created to honor women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond, women whose stories deserve to be seen and celebrated. Each year, the portraits are showcased in an elegant art exhibit and magazine that highlight the strength, beauty, and accomplishments of the women featured. I am currently interviewing for the fifth series, which continues to grow as a movement of empowerment and connection for women in our community.
I also help professionals elevate their personal brands through sophisticated, magazine-style portraits that reflect authenticity, confidence, and elegance. Through my creative empowerment coaching, I guide clients who are ready to reinvent themselves and express their true essence with purpose and style.
Every experience I offer is designed to feel luxurious, empowering, and timeless, an artful reflection of each person’s individuality and inner strength.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Books such as “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron, “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert, “Year of Yes” by Shinda Rhimes, and “Building a StoryBrand” by Donald Miller have deeply influenced both my mindset and my approach to business. One of my favorite tools is Canva, which I not only use for design but also teach classes on to help others express their creativity visually. More than anything, my greatest inspiration always comes from the women I photograph, their courage, vulnerability, and strength continually remind me why I do what I do.
