Today we’d like to introduce you to JoAnne McDaniel.
Hi JoAnne, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Our family became beekeepers 12years ago-it started as a home school project for my nephew. We specialize in commercial beekeeping with pollinating for local farmers here in Florida and Southern Indiana. At any given time we manage 3,000 to 3,5000 hives per season. The apiary part of the business goes by C&B Apiaries out of Highlands County Florida. I myself joined the business only a few years ago and formed CBbees which is the honey and beeswax selling portion of the business. We sell at farmers markets and currently have about 20 retailers/restaurants selling or using our honey. We offer 3 to 5 varieties of honey and have 4 signature beeswax candles.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always some type of obstacles:growing season for pollination,weather, production of honey, quantity and quantity of honey produced.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Highlands County beekeeper with offering at anytime 3 to 5 different honey’s. The honey portion of the business goes by CBbees and will be operating for 2 years in November. We offer FREE home delivery in Highlands County. Besides our honey and we make beeswax candles in small batches. There’s currently about 20 small businesses that sell or use our honey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Bad luck : consumers are not educated on the benefits of true raw honey and at times would prefer to buy from the grocery store because of pricing. So that’s where we try to educate them on the benefits and uses which then turns that person into a customer and it becomes good luck
