Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Joelsson.
Hi sofia , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ms. Sofia Joelsson, a Swedish native, came to America in 1998 to pursue her passion for interior decorating. Her successful style and inspiring aesthetic has transcended into designing magnificent homes for her private clientele, and has expanded into other projects. In addition to complete residential build-outs at Sofia Joelsson Design, she customizes furniture and sells a curated selection of beautiful pieces for the home.
Sofia is well known for her meticulous design approach that perfectly fits into the lifestyles of her clients, understanding and translating it by creating living spaces that not only look magnificent, but become extensions of the people that live in them. Her goal is to capture the essence of their dream home and deliver a complete environment that intersects luxury with comfort, indulgence with wellness, and technology with simplicity.
Sofia’s visionary and highly detail-oriented approach to design drives her to be innovative. Her travels around the world afford her the opportunity to visit design markets for new state-of-the-art materials, technologies, objects, and ideas. Sofia is able to tailor her execution specifically to each client’s needs. Her goal ultimately is for clients to feel as comfortable and pampered in their homes as they would in an exceptionally fine hotel.
After 25 years of running several succesful companies inluding the interior design firm Sofia now specializes mostly working on investment properties and working with developers for new projects and occasionally does passion projects for individual clients
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
“Like most entrepreneurs, my journey hasn’t been without challenges. Running your own business means you’re constantly learning — sometimes through tough lessons. I’ve navigated everything from disputes to the painful realization that not everyone shares your integrity or vision. Those moments can shake you, but they also build incredible strength. Each challenge has taught me to trust my instincts more deeply, to set stronger boundaries, and to lead with both heart and clarity. In hindsight, those experiences didn’t break me — they refined me.”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
“I’m the founder and creative director of Sofia Joelsson Design, a Miami-based interior design studio known for crafting spaces that balance luxury with livability. Over the past two decades, I’ve completed more than 500 projects — from waterfront residences to boutique developments and private retreats around the world. My work blends architectural discipline with a highly personal approach to lifestyle and emotion — every space has to feel as good as it looks.
I’m probably best known for creating interiors that tell a story — layered, soulful, and curated rather than over-designed. What sets me apart is the way I approach each project as a full sensory experience: art, light, scent, texture, and energy all have to align. My clients often say I have an intuitive way of understanding how they want to live before they can even articulate it.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built over 24 years — with clients, artisans, and collaborators — and that my work has been featured in publications like Architectural Digest and Luxe. But more than that, I’m proud that every project still excites me. I still get that same spark walking into a raw space and imagining what it can become.”
What are your plans for the future?
“The future for me is about expansion — but in a very intentional way. After two decades of designing some of the most inspiring homes and spaces, I’m now focusing on projects that blend design, lifestyle, and real estate on a deeper level. I’m developing new ventures that bring together my passions for architecture, art, and storytelling — creating experiences that go beyond interiors and touch every aspect of how people live.
I’m also really excited about continuing to grow Kreative Konsultants a collaboration that merges design vision with real estate strategy — helping clients see the full potential of their properties from concept to completion.
Personally, I’m exploring new creative mediums — from product design to content creation — all rooted in the same belief that beauty has the power to transform how we feel. I’ve learned that evolution is everything; the more you stay curious, the more your work — and life — stay inspired.”
