Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolas Godoy.
Hi Nicolas, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started training in martial arts when I was 4 years old and I have never look back since. I had the opportunity to travel and train under different styles and even eventually work for different academies throughout my teen years. When I was 21 years old I was working three jobs. I was teaching martial arts and always had the dream of starting up my own academy. I had saved up some money and found a location close to miami executive airport at a dance studio. I began a program by renting out a time a slot. I started to grow my class and student base but after two months the dance school told me they needed me to pay half the rent or they will close down. I was nervous and had to just hope I can continue to make this thing grow and I did. But after another two months the dance studio owner told me they couldn’t afford the rent and no longer had the means to keep the space. I quickly thought my dreams were going to come to an end. I buckled my boot straps came up with the security deposit and worked out a deal with the property owners to let me transfer the space to my name and it officially became my space. After I year I needed something bigger and moved in to the warehouses towards the back of the property and the rest is history. We have been serving the west Kendall community for over 12 years and were running strong. Overcoming lock down and COVID we only got stronger and our outreach expanded as well. We love spreading the quality of our martial arts program to the youth of our community and to the adults that walk through our doors. We offer a variety of different programs that meet and cater to all different needs and disciplines. Martial arts/ Muay Thai / Jiu Jitsu and more.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Covid and lock down were some difficult hurdles along with the tough economy.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We teach martial arts through our program that helps teach and instill respect, honor and discipline. We give a personal approach to the way we teach and mentor our students. As the owner I am involved in pretty much every class so I can be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each of my students. We do have other instructors and staff but again unlike other schools I am directly involved as an owner and instructor still.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is for losers, I believe in good old fashion hard work and above all else I believe God has truly blessed me and taken care of me.
