Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Roque.
Hi Ana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working for AFLAC after I was fired from a health insurance company called Health Plans of America. This was a new insurance company and I was not able to sell any policies and when they fired me I was very upset and didn’t want to look for a new job and then someone from AFLAC called me and convinced me to work with her but I told her no, because I need a job that was not commission only and I needed benefits for my 2 young daughters. I was so sure that I needed a salary and that I would not survive or be good enough to do sales. She asked me to help her team until I find a job. I started helping them when she needed me for enrollments since I speak Spanish and she needed someone that spoke Spanish. I started working with her team and started making so much money that I forgot to look for a job. Later on I started getting calls by headhunters offering me jobs at least 100K to start and I turned them all down because I was making so much more money and working less time. I did not realize that the lady that recruited me was one of the top districts coordinator in the country and she had gotten my resume from a friend that I had asked her to help me find a job in the insurance industry. You never know how God is going to bless you and sometimes you need to take chances.
I have been an entrepreneur for almost 30 years and I went on to become a broker for all benefits and do investments in properties. I got my real estate license a year go, I am always trying to find ways to do things.
I have been blessed with the people in my life that have helped me so much in my career and in my life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I started I did a lot of cold calling and door knocking to get new business for AFLAC and also for health insurance. I put in a lot of hours into my work to become who I am today. Nothing good comes easy! You have to work very hard to have people trust you and always answer your phone and return calls and emails as quickly as possible. People like to do business with people that they trust and like. I always try to do what I say that I am going to do. My word is my bond!
