Claudia J, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Claudia J Cabrera, I’m from Dominican Republic and live in Miami for the past 25 years. My story is the following, I started to travel and do cruises for me and my family. Then many friends and friends families started to come also and it became a big group, they told me to do this job since I was very good at it but I wasn’t sure about it. I started to research about the business and opened up my company CJC Travel Tours in 2017 it was at little bit difficult at the beginning but I have a very strong friendly personality which helped getting more customers and more groups. Everything was doing very well until the pandemic came and for our industry we stopped business for about almost 2 years, after that I have to started from the very scratch again and even worse because people were afraid of traveling for Covid but I did it and now I can say everything worth it. I’m doing very good, I feel very successful and I keep going up.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was very struggling at the beginning and then with the pandemic was even worse.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My company is a travel agency. I specialized in cruises which is my 85% of the business and then other 15% are resorts and land trips. I’m known because I bring many groups onboard cruises, I do private events for them and everyone knows me onboard too. People says I’m very popular lol. I do weddings, birthdays, Quinceañeras, corporate events, parties, etc. onboard cruises.
My main brand is MSC Cruises which is an European company that combines the European style with American Comfort. I always travel with my group and make sure they have a great vacation, the only thing they need to do is to have fun and enjoy.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I would have liked to find someone like me with the experience I have now who could have guided me better, because it took me a long time to learn and become an expert in my work.
