Daily Inspiration: Meet Penina Flug

Today we’d like to introduce you to Penina Flug.

Hi Penina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since I was in high school I always wanted to be a social worker specializing in couples therapy. I am very grateful that through hard work and family support I was able to reach that goal and I feel very blessed to love my job as well as the fact that I have a job that is very good for a mother in terms of my ability to create my own schedule to work around the needs of my family and that is always changing as the kids grow up.. I am grateful to have limited my practice to relationship therapy since this is what I am skilled at and love doing. I am passionate about helping couples and families through emotionally focused couples therapy, developed by Dr. Susan Johnson, since it is humanistic, empathic, collaborative and very effective and research based. After working with couples for many years, i decided that I also want to get involved in prevention through premarital education. I was trained in build a lasting connection premarital program, developed by EFT trainers, Debi Gilmore and Becca Jorgensen. It is an amazing research based program to prepare for or enhance your marriage. I enjoy preparing couples for marriage. I also enjoy providing marriage education through podcasts and articles. I recommend Dr sue johnsons book to every couple that I see and many tell me how helpful it is for them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Thankfully it has been a smooth road. Going through grad school and early career years was challenging since I had long and late hours starting out. It was difficult going back to work pretty quickly when I had my babies. Moving to Florida was difficult in terms of the job opportunities weren’t as good here as NY. Starting and growing my private practice was a lot of work but very rewarding.
