We’re looking forward to introducing you to Isis Mesa-Rubin. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Isis , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Something that’s making me proud right now is accomplishing one of my lifelong goals: writing my first children’s book. It’s always been a dream of mine, and to finally see it complete feels surreal.
What I’m most proud of, though, is pushing past my fears and self-doubt and doing it anyway. Putting something out into the world without knowing how it will be received can be scary, but I’ve learned that creating should come from love, not validation. You create because it lights something within you.
If it’s well received, that’s a beautiful bonus, but simply knowing I brought something I love into the world, despite the fear, feels pretty amazing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Isis Mesa-Rubin, a birth doula, certified lactation counselor, and childbirth educator based in South Florida. My work is devoted to guiding women to trust their intuition, reconnect with their bodies, and reclaim birth as a natural, sacred process of life.
Through my services and community offerings, I create spaces where women and families feel seen, supported, and empowered, from prenatal education and birth support to motherhood circles and storytelling.
Most recently, I’ve brought one of my lifelong dreams to life: writing my first children’s book, Welcome to the World: A Doula’s Guide to the Magic of Birth, a heartfelt story that celebrates birth, introduces young readers to the role of a doula, and honors the strength of mothers and the beauty of welcoming new life. My hope is that it inspires families to talk about birth in a way that feels both natural and powerful.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
There have been many moments that have shaped how I see the world, but without a doubt, the most transformative one was becoming a mother. The moment I had children, everything shifted, the way I saw myself, my purpose, and the world around me.
Motherhood opened my eyes to what’s truly at stake. I began to feel the struggles and heartaches of mothers everywhere, and it ignited something deep within me, a calling to advocate, support, and be part of causes that help create a better world for my children and future generations. It elevated the meaning of life for me, turning it into something much bigger than myself.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most is being fully seen. For much of my life, I’ve held myself back out of fear of being judged or disliked. I’ve often stayed in the background, supporting others, quietly doing the work but avoiding the spotlight.
It’s something I’ve had to work really hard on, learning to speak up and allow myself to be visible, even when it feels uncomfortable. Releasing my book into the world has been a huge part of that healing, a catalyst for stepping forward, owning my voice, and allowing myself to be seen in my fullness.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am deeply committed to birth work and to elevating the conversation around how we care for mothers. While transforming systems of care is not without its challenges, I firmly believe that women deserve autonomy, choice, and to be recognized as the central figures in their birth experience.
I’ve witnessed firsthand how being supported with reverence can transform a woman and how tapping into her innate power during birth can change everything. That transformation extends far beyond the birth itself, creating ripples that strengthen families, communities, and society as a whole.
How we birth, and how we are cared for in birth, matters deeply. I remain devoted to sharing this message and doing my part to create meaningful change within the systems that support mothers.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me is that I loved fiercely, cared deeply, and wasn’t afraid to stir up a little good trouble along the way. That I stood for something meaningful and used my voice, my work, and my heart to help make the world a gentler, more just place.
