Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Sophia Martin-Brown of Florida

We recently had the chance to connect with Sophia Martin-Brown and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Sophia, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I would absolutely hire me . I am the passion, the joy, the light and most importantly the smile and finesse – that will always be there. Smiles are important in any business and finesse helps it to thrive.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Greetings! I’m Sophia, the founder of Sassy Sophia LLC, known both locally and in my home country of Jamaica. My educational journey took me through some of the island’s top schools, but it was during high school that I truly discovered my passion for impeccable presentation.
Though my family faced financial challenges, my aunt—who played a pivotal role in raising me—made sure I always looked my best, with perfectly styled hair and neatly pressed uniforms.
When I moved to the United States, the value of always presenting oneself with care and confidence became even more deeply rooted in who I am. Over time, I formed meaningful connections with people who admired my unique sense of style and personal grooming. I’ve always believed that you don’t need matching pieces to look polished—true style comes from knowing how to creatively mix and match.
I’m driven by a deep desire to uplift and inspire others, especially those facing setbacks. One guiding scripture that continues to strengthen me is: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It’s this faith and determination that I pour into every part of my brand.
Through Sassy Sophia LLC, I bring passion, creativity, and vision to everything I do. My mission is to empower others to overcome challenges, embrace their individuality, and realize their full potential.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I was ugly. I was told that by classmates—and even by some family members. Those words stuck with me for years. “Ugly” became a label that burned deeply into my self-worth, leaving scars that were hard to heal.
Growing up, I wore my hair natural while many of my peers used chemical relaxers, which were often praised for enhancing their looks. I thought I looked fine, but the world around me seemed to say otherwise.
Over time, my perspective began to shift. Through meeting new friends, reading motivational books, and diving deeper into the Bible, I started to heal and see myself differently. I began the journey of self-love—a journey that taught me to embrace who I am and appreciate what God has given me.
Today, I no longer believe I’m that “ugly little girl from Jamaica 🇯🇲.” I am the founder of Sassy Sophia LLC, a marketing, branding, and influencer platform built to empower and uplift. My slogan—”The best version of yourself”—is more than just words; it’s a truth I live by. I now have supporters and fans who see me for who I am, and I partner with Kingz Creation LLC to keep the vision alive: that anyone can achieve their dreams, no matter where they start.
I’ve learned that self-love is not just a trend—it’s a necessary foundation for living a fulfilled life. And today, I celebrate the woman I’ve become.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Initially, I felt the world was passing me by. When a friend encouraged me to join Facebook and Instagram, I was completely unfamiliar with the platforms. I signed up anyway, and everything changed. I quickly realized the power of social media to connect with people, finding a community filled with kind and supportive individuals. I started sharing daily motivational messages and personal photos, building an engaged audience. This organic growth led to exciting opportunities: I’ve since branched into promoting, modeling, and partnering with various companies that align with my brand. I learned to recognize my unique strengths—my superpower—and use them intentionally to progress in life and business.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
What you see is what you get! My name is Sophia, and I pride myself on being the kind, loving, and perpetually smiling person you encounter. Anyone who knows me will tell you: I live up to my reputation as a source of genuine inspiration.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I was born to lead in the fashion and modeling industry, and I’m living that purpose every day. My drive is fueled by a desire to uplift and motivate anyone facing challenges or feeling disheartened. I approach every business endeavor, drawing strength and guidance from the mantra, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” With fervent passion, unwavering drive, and a keen sense of style, I elevate my projects and partnerships to new heights. My ultimate mission is to empower individuals to overcome obstacles and embrace their full potential.
