An Inspired Chat with Joshua Burstein of Boca Raton

Joshua Burstein shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Joshua, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
People often think running a cleaning company is simply about supplies, schedules, and making sure the work gets done. What’s often misunderstood is how much of it is about people. Every night we’re balancing personalities, keeping team members motivated, and ensuring clients feel valued and cared for.
Behind the scenes, it’s constant coordination, from managing teams across multiple sites to solving problems before they reach the client. The cleaning itself is the easy part. The real challenge, and what I enjoy most, is building trust, keeping both our employees and clients satisfied, and creating a culture where everyone takes pride in what they do.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Joshua Burstein, founder of Sawgrass Cleaning Solutions. I started the company out of a simple desire to build a business of my own. I didn’t know it would be in the cleaning industry at first, I just knew I wanted to create something real and meaningful. Over time, I realized how much impact a well run cleaning company can have on the daily lives of others.
Sawgrass Cleaning Solutions has grown into a trusted partner for businesses, religious centers, and private schools across South Florida. What sets us apart is the level of care and communication we bring to every account. We treat every facility as if it were our own and take pride in being proactive, reliable, and responsive.
What I enjoy most about this work is knowing that we provide both high quality service and peace of mind. A clean, well maintained environment isn’t just about appearance, it keeps businesses running smoothly and helps people feel comfortable and productive. That’s what drives us every day.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My father. My parents always ran their own business while I was growing up, and that had a big influence on me. Watching them build something from the ground up taught me the value of hard work, independence, and responsibility. It shaped my mindset early on, I always knew I wanted to create and own something of my own rather than work for someone else.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Countless times. Running a business comes with moments where you feel discouraged, exhausted, or question if it’s all worth it. There have been times I thought about walking away, but I kept pushing forward. Looking back, those difficult moments were the ones that built the most resilience. Staying consistent, even when things felt overwhelming, is what got me to where I am today.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That clients only care about price and that cleaning is simple. In reality, clients care deeply about reliability, communication, and consistency. Many companies convince themselves that low pricing wins, but that mindset sacrifices quality and long term relationships.
Another lie is that “anyone can clean.” The truth is, professional cleaning done right requires structure, training, and accountability. It’s not just about wiping surfaces, it’s about creating healthy, productive environments and taking pride in the details that most people overlook.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes. The commercial cleaning business is a thankless industry. Most of what we do goes unnoticed when it’s done right. People only notice when something’s missed. You have to take pride in the work itself, not in the recognition. That mindset has shaped how I lead my team and how we approach every job. We do it right because it matters, even if no one says thank you.
