Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Sanchez.
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The arts have always been a passion for me. I get asked a lot how I got into doing makeup and I feel it all leads back to my childhood love of drawing and painting. My grandma was artistic and I loved watching her draw and paint. She would always draw faces so intricately and I became so interested in it that she would draw me blank faces to color in. I guess you could say thats where my love of makeup started! I have always leaned into the beauty side of everything and weddings were always a source of interest and happiness for me. I started out by doing friends makeup and later on went to skin care school to learn facials as well. I built my portfolio by doing friends and families makeup, and then later on teamed up with photographers to do styled wedding shoots. This helped me reach my first few brides. I feel my love for makeup and my calming nature on wedding days is what has helped me get to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been smooth, but what small business is? Covid times were a big shift for the industry as a whole which I think has taken time to level out again. I am grateful for my loyal clients who continue to send referrals my way. Adjusting to the changes with social media being such a source of information now has also been a challenge, but that is not stopping me from continuing to do what I love!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My love of makeup ties in with my love of weddings which is why I specialize in bridal beauty. There is nothing like being a part of someone’s new beginning and I truly enjoy every wedding I work on. I am known for a more natural look that still feels true to who my brides are. My goal isn’t to be heavy on trends, but to deliver a classic makeup look that will look beautiful for years to come in your photos. I am proud that I have stood by my style throughout many changes in trends. There’s a lot of pressure on social media to be like everyone else, but I know that being authentic to my makeup style is going to reach the right brides. I specialize in Airbrush makeup which to me is elite for bridal makeup. I think this sets me apart from a lot of artists now because it isn’t as common anymore and in the Florida heat and humidity, I feel from experience it lasts so beautifully and looks so flawless on camera.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think it’s important to stay authentic. I want my brides to meet me and feel like they are seeing the same person they see online. Showing up and being consistent with each wedding is so important. Anyone can pick up a brush and learn to do makeup, but what sets apart a successful makeup artist, is how you make the client feel at the end of the day. I hope that every client leaves feeling like they made a new friend.
