Today we’d like to introduce you to Pilar Andujar.
Hi Pilar, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Around 1997, I was working for a major airline when a trip to Hong Kong changed everything. I bought my first professional film camera, thinking of becoming a landscape photographer. But somehow, there was always a person in my frame; a child, an old man, a couple passing by. That’s when I realized: the portrait photographer in me was quietly calling my name.
What began as a simple hobby back in the ’90s grew into my brand in 2012. It’s been such an amazing journey, and by the end of 2021, I knew it was time to follow my passion wholeheartedly and focus entirely on my photography business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many creative paths, mine has had its share of challenges. Building a photography business takes time, patience, and a lot of self-belief, especially when you’re wearing all the hats: artist, marketer, and entrepreneur. There were moments of doubt, times when I questioned if I could really make a living doing what I love. But every challenge taught me something valuable about resilience, trust, and growth. And through it all, the joy of capturing people’s stories kept me moving forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a portrait photographer, and my work is all about celebrating people—especially women—in every stage of life. I specialize in creating magazine-style portraits that capture strength, beauty, and authenticity. Whether it’s through my “40 Over 40” campaign, personal branding sessions, or timeless legacy portraits, my goal is always the same: to help my clients see themselves the way the world sees them—confident, radiant, and worthy of being celebrated.
What I’m most proud of is the transformation I witness in people. It’s not just about the photographs; it’s about how they feel during and after the session. I love hearing a woman say, “I’ve never felt more beautiful,” or “I finally see myself again.” Those moments remind me why I do what I do.
What sets me apart is the experience I create. I take the time to connect with each client, to understand their story, and to bring it to life through light, styling, and emotion. It’s not just a photo session—it’s a celebration of who they are.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d love to remind everyone—especially women—that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself or to celebrate who you are right now. That’s exactly what inspired my 40 Over 40 campaign—a celebration of women in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. Through this project, I want to show that beauty, confidence, and purpose don’t fade with time—they deepen.
Each session is about more than just taking a beautiful portrait; it’s about helping women see themselves in a new light and honoring the stories that have shaped them. My hope is that every woman who participates walks away feeling powerful, visible, and proud of the life she’s built.
