Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Dopazo.
Hi Alexander, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My father transitioned into insurance while I was just starting in the workforce. I was working in a coffee shop. (Coffee is actually one of my lifelong passions) One day, while I was visiting my father, he asked if I would help him at his office. Like any dutiful son I said yes. So I helped my father while working at the coffee shop and getting my license. Eventually, I transitioned to working with my dad full-time, and I’ve been a lifelong student of the insurance industry ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles are part of the process. I still remember my first few phone calls. They were not pretty. Every day in insurance, you are going to encounter some sort of block or issue. There aren’t struggles along the way; there are struggles all the way. It’s the same for all businesses. Learning to embrace the ebbs and flows, understanding that strategy eats hustle for breakfast, and keeping our mission central in all we do help us overcome struggles and push forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of Dopazo & Associates. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are an insurance agency that caters specifically to small businesses. We have vast experience helping business owners navigate and better understand risk transfer. All business owners are risk takers. They risk their time, their capital, sometimes their very sanity and there are ways to mitigate and transfer some of that. We help them see through the noise so they can make decisions to keep their businesses growing and going.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Be patient. Be kind to yourself. You’re going to mess up. It’s part of the process, and without it, there is no success.
Specifically for insurance, I would say stay informed, go to conferences, and do continuing education. Insurance is ever evolving, and you do not want to be left behind.
Last but certainly not least., network. You’ll be surprised by just how much of an impact it’ll have on you and your business.
