Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharif “Reef” Abboud.
Hi Sharif “Reef”, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey as a barber began in middle school when I first picked up a pair of clippers at around 12 or 13. I started by cutting my own hair and quickly learned the ropes through trial and error. As I gained confidence, I began cutting my friends’ hair in high school, which fueled my passion.
After graduating, I enrolled in Florida Barber Academy and dedicated a year to mastering the craft. In 2003, I landed my first job at Uptown Barbershop in Coral Springs, discovered through the Yellow Pages. This experience allowed me to refine my skills and build a clientele.
Over the years, I worked at two or three different barbershops, each adding to my knowledge and expertise. In 2011, I took a significant step and partnered to open my first shop, Celebrity Cuts. This venture was a dream come true, allowing me to create a space where I could share my passion and connect with the community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Na the road definitely wasn’t the smoothest. This was my first job, and I was learning to live on my own while managing new bills and the pressure of keeping up with the demands of growing my business. One of the biggest struggles during this journey was figuring out how to consistently deliver high-quality haircuts. Back then, there was no social media or YouTube to guide us. You had to rely on the knowledge from barber school and the experience gained while working alongside skilled barbers. I was fortunate to have some great instructors who showed me the ropes, but much of my learning came from trial and error in the shop.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a barber, I specialize in delivering exceptional haircuts that boost the confidence of every man, from teenagers to professionals. I believe that a great haircut is more than just a style; it’s a cornerstone of a man’s self-esteem and plays a vital role in how he presents himself in all areas of life.
When someone sits in my chair, my goal is to create a standard of excellence that goes beyond just the haircut. I strive to provide an exceptional experience that matches the quality of the service. Each client deserves to feel valued and confident when they leave, knowing they’ve received not just a haircut, but a true transformation that enhances their image and self-assurance
How do you define success?
To me, success is defined by consistency, quality, and happiness in what I do. It’s about creating a life that embraces my passion while also being financially rewarding. True success involves not only excelling in my craft but also uplifting others along the way—whether it’s through teaching, mentoring, or simply sharing my knowledge and experience. It’s the fulfillment that comes from contributing positively to my community and helping others find their confidence, all while staying true to my passion for barbering.
