Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Gadbois.
Hi Alexis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I got fired from a job and decided I was going to be the best video editor ever. I jumped headfirst into Adobe Premiere and After Effects. I’d go on trips with my friends, film the chaos, and cut them into fun vlogs.
By 2018 I realized I wanted to take this creative path seriously. Maine felt too small for my ambitions, so in 2019 I took a leap and moved to Houston, Texas, all by myself without knowing a single person there. Houston is where I really found my voice as an artist. I met amazing friends who pushed me, taught me, and showed me what was possible. At the time, video was my obsession: editing, shooting, experimenting.
Then in 2020, on a night out after way too many drinks, I met my now fiancé, who also happened to be an artist. Two years later, we moved to Miami together and started exploring CGI. What began as a side experiment turned into building something bigger than either of us expected. Today, we run our own CGI studio, AS IF LLC.
What I love most about CGI is that it never feels limiting. The possibilities are endless, and every project is a chance to push into something new. Over the past few years, we’ve been lucky enough to work with incredible brands like Graza, Target, One/Size, Sephora, Urban Decay, and e.l.f. And one of those “pinch me” moments? Seeing our work light up a Times Square billboard with Samsung.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think becoming an artist is a smooth ride for anybody, haha. It took years before I could truly say I love the work I get to do every day. It takes a lot of persistence to get your foot in the door, but every challenge along the way has been worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We create CGI ads for brands, and what we love most is finding fun, creative ways to make big moments feel as epic as they truly are. My fiancé always says that something like landing an end cap in a big store such as Target is a huge deal, but it can be hard to capture that impact with just a photo. That’s where CGI comes in, we use it to communicate the scale and excitement behind those milestones.
One of our proudest accomplishments so far has been seeing our work featured on a Times Square billboard for Samsung. It was something I had been writing in my journal for years, so actually seeing one of my biggest dreams come true was definitely surreal, haha.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Honestly, I’m not sure exactly where the industry will be in 5–10 years, but that’s what makes it so exciting. With CGI, the possibilities are truly endless. For example, last year we created a Macy’s Day Parade–style float for Graza. If that were to happen in real life it would cost a fortune, but through CGI brands can bring those kinds of big, imaginative ideas to life in a way that’s much more accessible. I think we’re only scratching the surface of what’s possible, and it will be really interesting to see how brands continue to use CGI to dream bigger.
