Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Sample.
Hi Jay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in New Jersey, in a neighborhood where music and DJs were everywhere. From an early age, I fell in love with the atmosphere, the energy, and the sound of dance music. That passion led me to start DJing college parties, and soon after, I began spinning at lounge spots across New York City.
As I refined my style, I connected with people who appreciated my sound, which opened the door to international opportunities. I landed residencies in Tokyo, Japan, as well as in Bali and Korea, experiences that expanded my artistry and global perspective.
After years abroad, I returned to the States searching for the place with the highest energy and the strongest dance music culture. That journey brought me to Miami—a city where the vibe is electric and the scene is alive every night. Here, I’ve continued to grow, performing for diverse audiences and elevating every dance floor I touch
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing in life is a smooth road if you’re not privileged. At a young age, I had to work a couple of summers just to save enough to purchase my first DJ equipment. Unfortunately, one of the people I tried to team up with ended up taking my money, which forced me to start all over again. It was a tough setback, but it taught me a valuable lesson early in life about resilience, trust, and pushing forward no matter what.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
DJ JAY SAMPLE My work is all about creating unforgettable experiences on the dancefloor. I specialize in blending house, funk, R&B, and Latin rhythms into high-energy sets that move people and bring cultures together. I’m known for reading a crowd, building the vibe, and delivering performances that feel fresh and unique every time.
What I’m most proud of is the journey itself — starting from scratch, grinding to buy my first gear, overcoming setbacks, and turning those challenges into the foundation of my career. That resilience has taken me from local parties to residencies in Tokyo, Bali, Korea, and Miami, where I built my name as “The Hardest Working DJ in Miami.”
How do you think about luck?
Luck has definitely played a role in my journey, both good and bad. Early on, I had some tough breaks — I worked summers to buy my first DJ gear, only to have someone I trusted take my money. That setback forced me to start all over again, but it taught me resilience and made me hungrier to succeed.
On the flip side, I’ve also had moments of good luck being in the right place at the right time, meeting the right people, and landing opportunities that opened doors internationally. But I’ve learned that luck only takes you so far. What really makes the difference is hard work, consistency, and being humble
