Story & Lesson Highlights with Allexa Fiori of South Florida

Allexa Fiori shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Allexa, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
That’s a great question. Misunderstandings in real estate are often the biggest barriers to building trust and closing deals. Hopefully I can clear up some common misconceptions:

1. “It’s about buying and selling houses” – Real estate is much about relationships, negotiations, marketing and PROBLEM SOLVING than it is about a transaction. The most successful agents spend the bulk of their time building trust, managing expectations and navigating complex situations- Not just properties.

2. “You make easy money with high commissions” – While commissions can seem high, they often do not reflect the hours, costs and nights involved- especially in slow markets. Agents cover marketing expenses, upfront costs and work evenings/weekends to close a single deal.

3. “Flipping or investing is a quick path to wealth”- Real estate investing requires deep due diligence, risk management, financial strategy and local market knowledge. One bad deal can wipe out profits from several good ones. It’s far from passive or easy

4. “The market always goes up” – Markets are cyclical, and smart real estate professionals account for downturns, interest rate hikes, regulatory changes and much more. There is no guarantee of appreciation, especially in short-term.

5. ” I don’t need an agent, I can find everything online”- Online listings are often outdated or incomplete. Negotiations, inspections, paperwork and local marketing knowledge require expertise.

6. “I should price high and negotiate down”- Overpricing reduces interest and can cause the property to sit, leading to lower offers in the long run.

7. ” I don’t need to stage or clean-buyer’s can see past it” – First impressions matter. Staging and presentation can dramatically impact perceived value.

8. “Open houses will sell my home”- Most serious buyers schedule private showings. Open houses often attract lookers, not buyers.

9. “I can go directly to the listing agent to get a better deal”- The listing agent represents the seller-not the buyer. You risk losing key negotiation power.

10. “I should wait for the market to crash or rates to drop”- Waiting can cost more if home prices rise or competition increases. “perfect timing”, rarely exists.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Being powerful is not about being the loudest in the room- It’s about being the sharpest.

There was a moment that reminded me exactly why I do what I do- and why confidence, clarity and standing ground matters.

I was representing a seller who agreed to a substantial amount off the price of her home. Then, just before finalizing the deal, the investor came back asking for more money off. My client was frustrated- rightfully so.

She had already made a fair concession and the request felt like a pressured tactic. I knew the home was priced fairly based on the condition and market value. So I pushed back. Professionally but firmly we let the investor know the price stands, no more discounts. Guess what? The investor agreed and we moved forward with the purchase.

Being powerful is not about being aggressive, it’s about being informed, confident and unwavering when it counts. I protected my clients equity, stood by what was fair and still closed the deal.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
What a strong question to ask. I guess this question really does show that not everything always goes perfect or according to plan.

At one point I believed that saying yes to everything and everyone was the key to success. Overextending the wrong clients, chasing every lead that isn’t aligned- you loose time. You loose presence. You loose clarity. You loose yourself in the noise. Feeling burnt out, stretching yourself too thin can weigh you down.

Boundaries are power. Focus is everything. When you protect your energy you set those boundaries and work with only aligned clients. The power to lead with intention instead of exhaustion.

Everyday you learn something new, sometimes we take on too much. Old me use to react quickly and now I have space to think, negotiate strongly and truly listen.

Failure has taught me that real success is not just about doing everything- It’s about doing the right things, really well. Now I work smarter, serve better and protect my energy.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The version of me you see in public is real but it’s also professional. Behind that version is someone who has learned the hard way- through burnout, failure and growth. I care deeply on what I do and I’m constantly learning. But I also know I don’t owe everyone full access to every part of myself to be real.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Of course I could. If you really think about what this question is asking, it’s pretty much based on the core of your character.

I do the right thing even when no one is watching. I show up fully for the people I work with, work for and myself- not because it gives me validation, but because it aligns with who I am. Integrity isn’t loud. Its consistent. I don’t do it for the applause, I do it because its who I am.

In real estate, a lot of what we do happens behind the scenes. The extra research, the late-night calls, the deals that almost fall apart but don’t because we quietly held them together. Most of that never gets posted, praised or seen.

If your efforts depends on an applause, your not working from purpose- You’re performing for approval. If that is the case work on a mindset shift, which many in this industry struggle with.

Ask your self “why”, make peace with being misunderstood, recognize approval seeking patterns (overthinking, needing feedback, not taking things too personal, etc.)

If you are someone struggling with validation remember praise feels good but purpose lasts. Choose the one that won’t disappear when the noise quiets.
