We recently had the chance to connect with Julio Cesar Arraut and have shared our conversation below.
Julio Cesar , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity matters more than being smart or energetic because it builds trust, dependability, and ethical conduct. Someone can be clever and diligent, but if they lack integrity, their actions might hurt others, betray trust, or be selfish.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve dedicated years to being a graphic designer for a top luxury cruise line brand, where I create visual narratives that resonate with people from all corners of the globe. Working for a worldwide brand has honed my attention to detail, creativity, and the impact of design on experiences. However, I’ve always dreamed of creating something of my own—something that embodies my passion for vibrant visuals, color, and swimwear.
That’s how IKAKOS Swimwear came to life. It began as a passion project and has evolved into a brand that honors individuality, style, and sustainability. At IKAKOS, we produce limited-edition swimwear crafted from eco-friendly materials, designed for those who don’t just wear swimwear—they make a statement with it. Each item features lively prints, playful vibes, and a hint of artistry, ensuring every collection is distinct and special.
What sets us apart is that IKAKOS is more than just swimwear—it’s about confidence, creativity, and living life to the fullest. My design background shapes everything, from the prints to the branding, giving IKAKOS a unique look and feel that truly stands out.
For me, this brand represents more than just fashion—it’s a means to spread joy, color, and personality to the world, one swimsuit at a time.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I don’t believe there was any belief I held about myself as a child that I still hold onto. Back then, I couldn’t have imagined how my life would turn out. Honestly, not even in my wildest dreams did I think I would achieve all that I have. I feel incredibly blessed to have experienced everything so far and I’m extremely grateful for all that I’ve lived and learned.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I might not be at the point of quitting (though I’ve thought about it for a second), but there have definitely been times when I’ve felt really discouraged and had to figure out how to pick myself up and keep going. I suppose that’s just part of the journey. I can totally see how anyone who starts a project like this would feel discouraged or lost at times.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. It’s super important to me since I can’t really hide who I am. With me, you get exactly what you see, and that’s how I roll in life. I get that you need to be cautious out there and not always be completely open, but I really do my best to show my true self.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m absolutely pursuing my true calling. Everything in my life up to now has been spontaneous and unexpected. I’ve been fortunate enough to spot great opportunities, and with sound judgment, I’ve seized those chances to create a life that lets me chase my dreams and do what I enjoy.
