Today we’d like to introduce you to Bashak Ilhan.
Bashak, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a serial entrepreneur, digital marketing strategist, e-commerce expert and business juggler. I’m the founder and co-founder of two communications agencies that specialize in branding,digital marketing, strategy and business development. As the creator and CEO of Road NYC, I lead a team of writers, designers and programmers to craft identities, expand narratives and engage audiences for fearless clients in New York, Miami and Istanbul. As half of UrbanARBA, I connect cities with the public and private sectors to boost the local economy and positively impact the community. On top of that, I’m the managing partner at ContempCo, a global strategic design company based in Manhattan, as well as a volunteer digital strategist at Arya Women Investment Platform, Turkey’s only female-focused investment platform dedicated to pairing entrepreneurs with venture capitalists. In 2017 I was named a “Young Society Leader” by The American Turkish Society, and just this year I was listed as one of Turkey’s most inspiring women by Dünya newspaper.
My heart skips a beat for art, coffee, pilates, dining out and traveling the world. Friends, colleagues and clients know me as a multitasking go-getter with a can-do attitude. My left-brain wiring makes me extremely logical, analytical and data-driven, but my right-brain strengths include an eye for detail and a love for design. I’m an innovator, a pioneer, a people person, a hustler, a tough cookie and a boss. I play by the rules, but I also make my own. I was born and raised in Turkey, graduated from the University of Westminster in London, moved to New York, and now live in Florida. I built four companies, work in three cities, speak two languages, and have one son.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
That road to success is never a straight line, and more probably it will be as a curve, broken line or something that will push you to the left, then to the right… on that road, being an entrepreneur is primarily hard because it is on you, Success is on you. Results are on you. Making the call, doing the things you don’t like to do, on you. But you control your destiny, you build your road, your opportunities, your time and your career.
The entrepreneurship is something like a journey. That’s why I called my journey, ROAD Design.

Road NYC is a full-service digital marketing agency located in New York, Miami and Istanbul. We design and develope e-commerce websites. We do monthly social media management, SEO consultant, product development, B2B, B2C website development and digital marketing. We increase sales. We are the best on E-commerce.
My second company, UrbanARBA is a one-stop communications, media and marketing agency that help cities work with the public and private sectors to boost the local economy and positively impact the community.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been a great sales person and a game builder. I use to sell my old toys when I was seven years old. I started to school when I was five years old. I am a hard worker. I like challenges. I always wanted to go to work with my father. My father is a serial entrepreneur and a successful music producer.
