Today we’d like to introduce you to Milagros Diaz.
Hi Milagros, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
This initiative started in 2019, we are two bilingual mental health professionals who provide with mental health evaluation for immigration cases to support to latino community. We also work with the Department of transportation to deal with drug violations in job sensitive positions. .Additionally, we also provide with psychotherapy to our South Florida community and serve our community with free parenting classes and mental health related issues in our local church.es.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth journey, when working in mental health, we as provider when dealing with insurance, billing and eligibility can be difficult. On the other hand, there is a big group of people who do not receive health insurance; therefore, we take it case by case, according to the insurance or the need.
Furthermore, there are many services that health insurance does not cover, such as immigration evaluation or substance abuse evaluation for the Department of Transportation.
We had to include payment plans to facilitate the service, and in some cases some pro-brono.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In our office we have learned to balance professionalism and compassion, never forgetting that the roots of this field is serving as a support to others, while making a living.
We specialized in mental health evaluations for victims of domestic violence, victim of crime, hardship specifically for immigration and evaluations for employee who failed a drug and alcohol test and need a substance abuse evaluation (SAP program). We also specialized in family and individual therapy.
What matters most to you? Why?
For us, what matters is remembering every day that we work with a vulnerable population that needs help, and we will try to provide it in any way we can.
