Rising Stars: Meet Christopher Plaza of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Plaza.

Hi Christopher, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Miami Wedding Week was born out of a dream, and, truthfully, a few cocktails, shared between three passionate wedding professionals who believed Miami deserved its own spotlight in the world of bridal fashion.

For me, it started as a vision. As a floral designer turned creative, I often found myself inspired by the magic of Miami’s historic venues. But I didn’t just want to design weddings; I wanted to create something bigger, an experience that would rival the top wedding destinations in the country and celebrate the artistry of our city.

Of course, a dream like this doesn’t come to life alone. What I imagined could have easily stayed on sketchpads and dream boards if it weren’t for my partners. Carmen Davila-Hernandez, a powerhouse planner, kept me accountable and pushed the idea forward with determination. And Cristina G. Wempe, with her mastery of logistics, brought balance, execution, and structure to our vision. Within just two months, what was once an idea became reality.

What began as a creative outlet has now evolved into Miami Wedding Week, a premier bridal fashion event that showcases couture, artistry, and Miami’s vibrant culture. More than gowns and runways, it is about elevating our city as a world-class wedding destination and highlighting the incredible community of entrepreneurs who make it all possible.
Years from now, I know I will look back and smile, remembering how it all started, with an idea, some cocktails, and a trio of wedding professionals who believed in turning a dream into reality.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When we first started, the biggest challenge was simply time. We had this bold vision, but only two months to turn it into a reality. Coordinating venues, designers, sponsors, and media at that pace was intense. There were many late nights and moments where it felt impossible, but those challenges pushed us to be resourceful and lean on one another’s strengths.

Another struggle has been convincing people that Miami deserves a seat at the table in the bridal fashion world. New York and Los Angeles are often seen as the go-to destinations, so it took persistence to show that Miami not only belongs in that conversation but has its own unique flair that sets it apart.

Looking back, those obstacles have shaped us. They taught us resilience, the power of teamwork, and the importance of believing in your vision even when others don’t see it yet.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a floral designer by trade, my work has always been about creating experiences that go beyond what people expect. I specialize in transforming spaces through floral artistry, bringing together color, texture, and design to tell a story. Over the years, I have become known for creating weddings and events that feel deeply personal and memorable, where every detail has meaning.

What I am most proud of is that my work has never been just about flowers. It has been about connection, helping couples, families, and communities celebrate milestones in a way that feels authentic to them. That same philosophy is what inspired Miami Wedding Week. I wanted to take the artistry I was known for and scale it into something larger that celebrates not just individuals, but an entire city and industry.

What sets me apart is my ability to dream big while still staying grounded in execution. I can imagine what does not exist yet, but I also know how to collaborate with others to bring that vision to life. For me, it is not about being the only creative voice in the room, it is about building something bigger together.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I see the wedding and bridal fashion industry continuing to evolve in ways that embrace individuality, culture, and technology. Couples are moving away from cookie-cutter celebrations and instead leaning into experiences that feel personal and unique to them. That means we will see more diversity in design, representation of different cultures, and bold, statement-making fashion that breaks traditional molds.

Technology will also play a bigger role, from virtual planning tools to immersive event experiences that merge digital and in-person elements. Social media has already transformed the way trends spread, and I believe we will see an even greater emphasis on content-driven moments that are created with both the couple and their guests in mind.

For Miami specifically, I see the city becoming a true global destination for weddings. We have the venues, culture, and creativity to rival the biggest wedding hubs, and I believe events like Miami Wedding Week will continue to shine a light on this community and its talent.
