Hidden Gems: Meet Sam Christian of The Sl8te

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Christian.

Hi Sam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been a creator. Growing up, I never went anywhere without my sketchpad. A blank page/slate always excited me. Whether I was sketching doodles or writing a new song, I was drawn to the process of building something out of what some may see as nothing. That same creative energy propelled me into a career in technology and user experience design, where I spent years shaping the experience, look and feel of digital products for successful startups as well as Fortune 100 companies, creating some of the top brand identities and design systems that people continue to interact with today.

In 2022, I decided to launch The Sl8te, a premier content studio and venue in Pompano Beach, Florida, to bring everything full circle, in a clean, versatile space where creators, entrepreneurs, and visionaries bring their ideas to life. Since its opening, The Sl8te has grown into a true hub for production, collaboration, and culture; hosting everything from creative industry networking mixers to full-scale production shoots for clients like Capcom and world-renowned creators like IShowSpeed.

The Sl8te is a space to connect, take action on your ideas, and bring those ideas to life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I faced early on was figuring out how to transform an empty, industrial warehouse into a fully functional creative studio—starting with the 21’ cyclorama (infinity) wall. I had no prior experience building one, so I had to dive into research, ask a lot of questions, and learn through trial and error. Thankfully, I connected with contractors who were open-minded and willing to build alongside my vision. There were learning curves on both sides, but with clear communication and a shared sense of purpose, we brought it to life. That cyc wall became the foundation for countless shoots and serves as a true compliment to the alternating sets we have throughout the space.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Sl8te?
The Sl8te is a 1,500 sq. ft. content studio and events venue. It features 14-foot ceilings, concrete floors, and a spacious open layout ideal for photography, videography, podcasting, and events that hold up to 50 people. The studio includes a custom-built cyc wall (approximately 16×21 ft) for seamless backdrops, blackout curtains for controlled lighting, and a modular setup that allows for multiple sets or event configurations. The vast versatility of the space is also why we named it, “The Sl8te”. We offere professional lighting, seamless paper rolls, rolling backdrops, Bluetooth audio, Wi-Fi, A/C, makeup station, and private restroom. Free parking is available on-site, and the space is accessible for both small crews, full-scale productions and private parties. We also offer weekly ongoing events to encourage community and collaboration.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I grew up in Miami, and it’s always held a special place in my heart. I love it for the cultural melting pot that it is. There’s a rhythm and cultural richness here that you don’t find in other states. From witnessing the array of languages and music styles to the food and family traditions, being raised in a city so full of diversity has shaped the way I see and move through the world. The weather is usually sunny and energizing, which adds to the vibrant, open-air lifestyle. That said, the heat can be a challenge at times. Those extremely hot days are probably the one thing I don’t love as much. Overall, Miami has been a beautiful backdrop to grow up in, full of life, color, and creativity.
