We’re looking forward to introducing you to Melinda Marquez. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Melinda, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is more important than intelligence and energy. I strive to be a good person and want to be known as one whenever I am not in a room. The goal in my life is to leave people with a good taste of my character. To be known as a loyal honest person.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Melinda but I am known as Mindy. I am the face of Mindy’s Catering. I served in the Army and grew a love and passion for food. I serve Meal Preps, Catering as well as Wellness Juices.
What I’d love to accomplish is to create healthy meals that are true to the soul. I want everyone who tries my cooking to be left with an authentic, true to home feeling.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother is who taught me most about work. She was a single mother who worked 2-3 jobs at time. She did everything she could to provide for my sister and I in order to give us a good life. I didn’t realize then how much of a toll that takes on one person alone but she did it so gracefully. My mother is still a hard worker and I think that is just who she is. But she taught me to never stop and to do everything you can to succeed in your goals.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be patient. I used to want quick results because I just wanted to reach the next level and climb the ladder faster. But, in the end I was not giving myself time to learn so that I could master my craft which resulted in so much setbacks. Now that I am older and wiser patience is a virtue.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I strive to be authentic and give my truth. Whether it’s good or bad. I believe we all try to put our best image forward for the public and that is ok. But I believe if you can’t be honest to others about who you are then how can they be their true self to you? I like my circle honest and blunt with me. So I believe in always being the realest in the room. I believe I am ALWAYS unapologetically me.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop wasting my time with pleasing others. I am a big people pleaser and sometimes the notion is not reciprocated. I’d keep those who are dear to me close and enjoy my passions with them.
