We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lil Nightlife. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Lil, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I would love to say I’m walking a linear path but I’ve never been a good liar. I’m kinda in the process of wandering even though I know for sure what’s the bigger overall picture. But I’m learning to just let things wander and sometimes linger and it’s kinda refreshing for me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Since this my second interview with you wonderful guys. I’ll keep it short and sweet I’m Lil Nightlife a Performance Artist as well as a Creative Director/Stylist. What makes my work unique is that I draw equally from nightlife, high fashion, and my real-life struggles, using that as fuel for my creativity. Currently I started doing music as a creative outlet under the moniker Lil Harrison. I dropped a Freestyle called Princess Auction Freestyle that was equal parts a diss equal to an Ex parts an Ode to Princess Auction (may she Rest in Peace) Go Stream it all Platforms!!!!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
So when I was younger I was a Gymnast and was competing in a state competition. So my teammate went to do his performance on the High bar and he fell. I remember he got hurt bad and was crying. The arena was in a state of shock. I can still remember it to this day. But what’s even worst is I was next to do the same performance.
I remember tuning out all the noise and knowing I had to still perform cause as much as Gymnastics has you on a team you still get scored as an individual. So I couldn’t back out. So I did my performance and I remember my Aunt having this look of fear when I did see her face as I moved but I remember thinking to myself I can do it and I did it. I scored well. I actually came 4th in the State that year! Go me!
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering kinda taught me a survival that nobody can take away from. From the hardships and lessons it taught me a resilience that built me sturdy.
Success may give you the trophies but suffering garners a voice that’s so sharp it never loses it effect.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
That everyone has Empathy and it simply isn’t true. There’s a lot of selfish people in the world and it sometimes seems like it’s getting worse every day. Not to get all dramatic but a lot of people are plainly selfish and self serving. It’s kinda sad that empathy is deemed as a weakness but oh well. I myself still am empathetic but I’ve gotten better at honing in on who really needs it vs who doesn’t.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m on stage or when I’m creating something hell I feel most at peace encouraging others cause sometimes it bigger then me!
