We recently had the chance to connect with KeAsia Kay Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
KeAsia Kay, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
For me, it’s always the beach. The sound of the waves and the feeling of sand under my feet give me peace in a way nothing else can. It’s where I go to recenter, to let go of the noise of the world, and reconnect with myself and with nature. The beach reminds me that no matter what’s going on, there’s beauty, stillness, and flow to tap back into. That’s where I realign and find my balance
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is KeAsia “Kay” Jackson, and I like to say I’m a catalyst for confidence. I’m an NAACP Image Award–winning voice actress on the TREAL Toonz Peanut Headz: Black History Toonz series, plus-size model, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker. I’ve walked runways from New York Fashion Week to Miami Swim Week, voiced characters that have touched millions, and built platforms that reflect my belief that every woman deserves to feel empowered, luxurious, and unapologetically herself.
I started as a self-made model with nothing but a dream and the determination to be more than average. That leap of faith opened doors that showed me the power of confidence and consistency, and it’s what inspired me to create my Becoming HER transformation series and my lifestyle and wellness brand, Her by Kay. Both represent growth, healing, and the idea that women can step fully into their highest selves while looking and feeling incredible.
At the heart of everything I do is the mission to show women and young girls that they can heal, grow, and embody their power, whether that’s through fashion, wellness, storytelling, or simply seeing someone who looks like them win. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my brand, creating impact through motivational platforms, and building spaces where women feel seen, powerful, and limitless.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that played small to make others comfortable. For a long time, I dimmed my own light out of fear of being “too much” or not enough. But that version of me served its purpose, it taught me humility and gave me the hunger to grow. Now, I’m releasing that energy and fully stepping into the woman I’m becoming: confident, fearless, and unapologetic about my gifts.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
The part of me that carried pain in silence. For years, I thought I had to hold it all in and shrink myself just to survive. That version of me served its purpose, it kept me strong through some of my toughest seasons. But I’ve learned that survival isn’t the same as living. Now, I release that weight so I can walk in freedom, light, and truth.
I stopped hiding my pain the moment I realized my story could inspire someone else. Modeling was the turning point. Stepping onto a runway in a body that didn’t fit society’s “standard” showed me that what once felt like pain could actually be power. From there, Becoming HER was born. Every challenge, every heartbreak, every doubt became fuel for growth. Now I use my pain as proof that transformation is possible, and as a reminder that even broken pieces can be rebuilt into something beautiful.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. What you see is what you get with me. I’m 100% myself whether I’m on stage, in front of a camera, or at home with my family. I believe in showing up authentically, because that’s the only way people can truly connect with you. My brand, my work, and my story are all rooted in the same thing: being real, being present, and being unapologetically Kay.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want people to remember that I never gave up, no matter what life threw at me. That I chose to let my light shine in every season, that I moved with love, and that I inspired others to believe in themselves along the way. My legacy isn’t just about what I achieved, it’s about how I made people feel and the doors I held open for those coming after me.
“I never gave up. I let my light shine, led with love, and inspired others to do the same.”
