Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward “Ed Bo1” Collins.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I actually started out wanting to be a painter—I even competed in middle school art contests. But at one event, instead of focusing on my painting, I was captivated by the live band. On the ride home, I told my teacher I was done with painting and wanted to pursue music instead, i never seen someone go from being so happy to disappointed so quickly HAHA. The next day I joined band class, and music has been my life ever since.
In high school, I began making beats and recording friends and family. After graduating, I studied music business in college but found myself more focused on producing and recording than classwork. I eventually moved back to Miami to fully chase music, studying business while working in major studios. When my school required an internship, I realized I was already on the career path I wanted—so I dropped out and went all-in, didnt help that i had a job on the other side of the city.
I spent years working in studios across the city, helping artists develop their sound, and even opened my home for local kids/teens to record, giving them something positive to focus on. During the pandemic, I officially turned that home setup into Trap Haus Studios—a professional space for creatives to feel comfortable and inspired. Today, alongside running the studio, I’m signed to Cool & Dre as a producer and also teach kids how to produce and record.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Short answer — !#%$ No
(idk if i can curse here, use your imagination lol)
But seriously its been a tricky road, no one tells you that being an entrepreneur means sacrifice. Time with friends/family, mental health, juggling your personal life/fiances with the career you’re chasing, all things that probably will be sacrificed. I’ve been through a lot but personally i don’t like dwelling on it, its hard to drive forward while looking in the rear view.
When i focus on everything Ive learned over the years, the connections and community Ive build it makes all the previous obstacles look like puddles.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Producer / Audio Engineer (What im known for and specialize in)
On the production side i got a placement with memphis bleek and lil wayne this year…that was pretty cool. For the studio im most proud of the artists growth that have been recording here for awhile. they are all growing into artists with actual motion, i remember when some of them made their first song so that’s pretty cool too.
What sets me apart is my approach to recording, i try to create a comfortable environment so that it is easier for an artist to be vulnerable. as well as professionalism, being present and in the moment, too many new engineers are simply here to get paid.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Feel free to send me music to sample, im always looking….no feet pics lol
