An Inspired Chat with Sarah Plasencia of Miami Lakes

Sarah Plasencia shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I am always trying to be ever present in the moment. I have to go outside every day and immerse myself amongst nature. Since the pandemic and the ever-rising living costs here in Miami my previous pleasures are now getting few and far between. My husband and I used to travel, and visit plenty of restaurants, but this is becoming harder and harder. For this reason, whilst times are hard. I am embracing free activities. I have been working on my art, trying new styles. I have been watching and recording mockingbird families in my garden. I have witnessed two growing families, who have been living in my lemon tree. It has been fascinating watching the industrious nature of the parents and how they never stop working to ensure their babies are fed and safe. I am cooking even more things, especially from locally sourced elements in Florida. I know nearly every recipe you can imagine for mangos!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an English self-taught artist. I do commissioned art pieces for my clients. I have never had formal training. The ability to paint and draw was just there. I did not concentrate on making art or selling it, until my late 40’s, so I am a late starter to the art world I do not have one set style. I can paint or draw anything that any client wants in any style. For some reason my main client requests are pet portraits.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Becoming a mother, was a massive gift. One of my greatest joys thus far, is being a mum to two beings. I love my daughter and son to distraction. I always tell them, “I am your biggest fan” and try to impart as much love, guidance and support to them. I see myself as a mother to all, loving and nurturing.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Try as you might, you can not savenand fix everyone.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
They are chasing the dollars, fame and power, over love, honesty and integrity.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
My goal in life is to visit as many places and countries as possible. I therefore would regret any opportunity that was missed not to travel.
