Alisia Kifer shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Alisia, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
People of all ages love plants!!! Every interaction is a little different, that’s what makes it exciting! Part of the magic is tuning into your gut when you’re connecting with customers or clients. Trust yourself, have fun with it, and let your passion for plants shine through! When you get me in a room with another plant person, we can make fast conversation about our favorite plant babies.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Garden Goddess is a woman-owned gardening business rooted in sustainability, education, and community engagement. Based in South Florida, the company offers eco-conscious gardening services, hands-on workshops, and inclusive events that empower individuals to reconnect with nature and cultivate their own green spaces. With a science-backed approach and a deep commitment to local impact, Garden Goddess is poised to become a household name in Florida’s eco-lifestyle movement. The owner, Alisia, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a minor in environmental sciences. Growing up on a farm, I’ve always had a huge love for plants and animals. That translated into school! For a while, I worked on numerous farms or taught children how to grow their food. Then, I became the lead horticulturist at Heathcote Botanical Gardens. In late 2023, we moved to the Pompano Beach area and worked on helping people with their spaces full-time. We love introducing plants to people. Whether it’s a veggie garden or one of our plant creations, we love sharing our spark with other plant lovers.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I don’t know if it was the most about work, but it was the earliest to teach me about it. My grandparents had a farm when we were growing up. Every summer I can remember being there helping them with the huge garden they had and playing in the woods. Learning about the different plants and how to grow them really had an impact on young me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
College near the end was very tough for me. I was doing a full-time school schedule, plus working on top of that. It was tough and stressful. There were a few times I didn’t know if I would finish. I have to give a huge credit to my mom. She was my biggest motivator. She reminded me I was strong and could get through it. I’m so grateful to her for that.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Dont get me started about what they classify as an organic fruit or vegetable.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would travel and educate myself first. Once I have a basic understanding of the true world as I know it versus what we are told about it, I would maybe build a community.
