Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Sonia Morales-Barros of Miami Beach

We recently had the chance to connect with Sonia Morales-Barros and have shared our conversation below.

Sonia , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I’ve never been the best sleeper, often lying awake long after the world has gone quiet. But no matter how late I fall asleep, I’m usually awake by 6:00 or 6:30, without the help of an alarm. As the morning light begins to peek in, I reach for my phone—not for emails, but to open my devotional and let my heart be still. Then I turn to my Bible, reading the daily passage that speaks to my soul.

I snap a few pictures, capturing the beauty of the moment, and share them on Facebook—not for show, but as a quiet testimony. This is my “Good morning” to my Father in Heaven, the first greeting of my day. Only after that do I open WhatsApp to send a good morning message to my father here on earth.

And that’s how my day begins—one hello to Heaven, and one hello to home.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer specializing in all four modalities: Abdominal, Pelvic, Vascular, Echocardiogram, Breast, Small Parts, and Superficial Ultrasounds. This year marks my 31st year doing what I truly love.

For the past seven years, I’ve taken my career to a VIP concierge level, providing personalized ultrasound services to my community in an amazing way—eliminating the long waits for appointments and reports. I make sure every call is handled promptly, and even if I can’t provide the service myself, I ensure the caller is guided to the proper channel.

It is always a pleasure to help.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is my relationship with God. In 2012, it became deeply personal, and I was baptized as a new Christian. My life changed forever. The weight of trying to solve everything in my own earthly way became part of the past. Now, each morning when I open my eyes, I tell God I trust Him and ask Him to lead me according to His will. That trust has taken me to places I never imagined I could be and introduced me to people I know I could never have met on my own—it is all the work of my Lord and Savior.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
When you hit rock bottom and pour out your heart on your knees, it strips away arrogance and pride. Suffering teaches you to value every blessing once the pain has passed. I’ve learned that true success comes from making peace with the struggles that once hurt you, because it’s those challenges that teach humility and help you fully appreciate the beauty of life.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely—I’m a true person. What you see is what you get—professionally, socially, and at home.
You can even ask my husband! 😉

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
My journey began when I became a mother at just 15—a very young girl who made a decision that changed her life forever. That experience made me stronger and more resilient. Today, I’m a woman who always sees the best in people, with a faith greater than myself and a deep, personal relationship with Jesus. I am happy and grateful for my life. “Ultimately, I want people to see the goodness of God through me.”
