We recently had the chance to connect with Jamie Diaz and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Jamie , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical day for me revolves around balancing family life with my passion for dog training. Beyond caring for my kids and dogs at home, I visit one or more of my four training locations to work hands-on with dogs needing guidance. Each day is dynamic, filled with diverse breeds, sizes, and behavioral challenges, which keeps my work engaging and rewarding. The variety ensures no two days are the same, and my love for what I do makes the time fly by.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a certified professional force free dog trainer and the owner of Dynamite Dog Training and Lucky Dog Training Club, operating four locations. Unlike traditional daycare or boarding facilities, we run a unique school for dogs with a structured curriculum. Throughout the day, dogs engage in tailored training sessions, and we provide videos for pet parents to reinforce the lessons at home, ensuring consistent progress and a personalized experience.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A defining moment that shaped my worldview was when I decided I no longer wanted to work for someone else and instead wanted the freedom to set my own hours and build my own future. About 17 years ago, I started my dog training business, and it took me three years of hard work to grow it into a full-time venture. Watching it continue to thrive over the years has taught me the value of resilience, self-reliance, and the power of creating your own path. That experience fundamentally changed how I see opportunity and success—it’s about taking responsibility for your own future and building something meaningful, step by step.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was never a moment where I fully gave up, but the COVID pandemic was an incredibly challenging time for my dog training business. When everything shut down, I faced the difficulty of pausing in-person sessions, which was the core of my operation. It felt like the ground was shifting beneath me, and it would have been easy to lose momentum. Instead, I saw it as an opportunity to pivot and rethink my approach. I used that time to revamp my entire system—creating a structured curriculum for the dogs, designing a more efficient schedule, and developing innovative training ideas. Most importantly, I embraced virtual training, which became a staple in my business because of the pandemic. When things reopened, these changes, especially the addition of virtual training, propelled my business to new heights with a stronger framework and renewed energy. That experience taught me to embrace tough times as opportunities for growth and innovation, and it made me appreciate the resilience it takes to keep pushing forward.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is absolutely the real me. I post at least four times a day, sharing real-time moments from my dog training schools, whether I’m working with dogs, running sessions, or brainstorming new ideas. I’m just as open about my life outside of work—whether I’m in pajamas with no makeup, hanging out at home, or fresh off recording my podcast with my hair done. My family and friends probably find me a bit annoying because I’m always asking them to film me, capturing unfiltered moments wherever I am. Everything I share online, from my training methods to my everyday life, is genuine—nothing is staged or fake. I believe in being transparent because it builds trust with my audience and reflects the passion I have for my work and my life.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I’m currently working on building the Dynamite Dog Training empire, with the goal of opening training schools across the country. Right now, I’m helping pet parents in South Florida, but I want to bring our unique training concept to dog owners everywhere. The school’s approach is unlike anything I’ve seen, designed to make training accessible and effective for every pet parent. Expanding this vision into a nationwide network will take time—likely 7 to 10 years to fully realize—but I’m committed to creating a lasting impact by sharing this innovative system with as many people as possible, helping dogs and their owners thrive.
