Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Yager.
Hi Becky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up around Interior Design watching my family’s interior designer do multiple properties. I graduated Iowa State with a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design. I started working in Chicago on the wholesale side of the industry in the Merchandise Mart. I then moved to New York to work on the national sales level in the D&D building. I returned to Chicago where I transitioned to working in a design firm for Nate Berkus when he started his firm. I transitioned to a few more high end Chicago Firms as the Design Director before being recruited to Sydney, Australia to run an international design firm there for 6 years. I returned to the states during COVID to run and develop a startup firm in Utah, I was then being recruited to Florida to be a partner in a firm. The partnership deal failed, so I decided to finally start my own firm. My firm is a boutique, high end, turnkey design firm working for high end clients in Sydney, NY and Florida currently.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not a smooth road, lots of egos in design. Unfortunately at times principles did not fulfill their promises or contracts and took credit for my work. I learned early on as a young designer to hold my head high and always try to remember how I felt climbing the ladder and be a good teacher.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in high end, turn key projects. We develop the design from the start being the vision holder who leads the team of consultants and is the main liaison to the clients. We are set apart by our global knowledge, experience in large estate planning, long term client retention with a talented, international experienced team. We are tech savvy using a procurement software program for transparency and hosting a site to house all our drawings for all consultants. I am most proud that our brand is sophisticated and our focus is on the clients experience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I have had the best , unique opportunities I believe because of my deep connections in the industry worldwide. Sadly the bad luck of always believing former firms promises that they would give as much as they were getting from me running their company. There is always a silver lining because the disappointment from my partnership falling through lead me to start my own firm. I am fortunate to have taken all the good and bad I learned from all the firms to build my team and appreciate them for their hard work.
