An Inspired Chat with Luisa Mesa

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Luisa Mesa. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Luisa, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
The creative process makes me lose time. When I am making art I often forget to eat and don’t even know what time it is.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a fine artist working in three different mediums.
I create non-representational drawings on paper, wood and glass employing materials such as inks, enamels, watercolor, acrylic and resin. Some of my works are sculptural and incorporate three-dimensional objects such as lenses and metal.
I also generate digital photo-based compositions using my own photographs, among others. Some of these compositions incorporate certain images I produce with AI.
Lastly, I create figurative oil paintings, mainly female faces.
I feel comfortable working in all the aforementioned mediums and I typically work in series.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship with my father most shaped how I see myself.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be totally yourself!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Right now I am creating a series of figurative oil paintings of women. Mainly “portraits.” These are very time consuming but I am working slowly and do not have a deadline.; just enjoying the process.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am definitely doing what I was born to do. I am my best self when I make art!
