Good morning Crystal, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first few hours of the day are spent focusing on wellness. Yoga, walking, journaling, praying, breathing are all activities that are typically engaging me as the day begins. It helps me to stay grounded, focused, and helps me to prioritize myself before engaging with the world around me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Crystal A. Sawyer. I am a harpist that is based in South Florida. I provide music for special events in addition to teaching through my non-profit, Lady of Harp Academy. The mission focuses on a harp positive environment for students from marginalized communities. It has brought me a great deal of joy to work on behalf of this mission, and the progress has been life changing.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My father saw opportunities for me that would flourish if my talent was developed. He opened many doors for me simply because he believed in me and was always there to be my support. I think about him daily and give thanks for such a wonderful father.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Go after your dreams simply because the journey alone will make you happy.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
You have to take care of yourself before you can attend to other matters. It is a daily task that is important. Breaking your routine and doing something different is a great way to keep yourself motivated, in tune, and creative. Travel to other places so that you can see how other people live and think. There is more than just your community. An entire world awaits discovery.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I feel as if I am in the right place now, walking a path that I did not clearly see before. However, now that I am here, it feels natural.
